CAIRO — A senior Suez Canal official says two Iranian warships have withdrawn their application to transit the waterway following expressions of concern by Israel over the plans.

The official said no reason was given for Thursday's decision to withdraw the application. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, also said it was not known if the vessels intended to transit the waterway at a later date.

Any warship that belongs to an enemy of Israel can still go to Syria only not through the canal.

Whatever happened to the Constantinople Convention of the Suez As you will see, Article I addresses this issue. I don't see any language that allows for hurt feelings or fears by Israel to trump the purpose of the treaty.

Remember the USS Liberty in 1967? Even America isn't allowed to get too close to Israel without their permission.

Yes, the technical research (read: NSA spy) ship USS Liberty was in international waters and was attacked by Israel jet fighters and torpedo boats killing thirty-four, wounding as many as one-hundred-seventy-five, and the eventual loss of that ship. Our 6th fleet, operating nearby did nothing more than collect the dead. Still, the Arabs accused the 6th fleet of providing air-cover during the Israeli-Arab war. The journalists on board the USS America reported that the Arabs were lying. This was the last recorded time US journalists ever supported the US military.

The U.S. has a battered wife style of relationship with Israel. We pour literally billions of dollars into that scratch of land, and in return they kill our soldiers, sink our ships, and spy on and sell off our industrial and military secrets to the Russians and Chinese.

We may claim and want to be friends with Israel, but Israel isn't our friend - never has. Why buy the cow when the milk is free?

This is more intolerable behavior from Israel in a history of intolerable behaviors including the attack on the USS Liberty. Unless I missed an annexation, the Suez canal is in Egypt. What right does Israel have to prevent its lawful use by neighboring countries? NONE.

I'm fed up with Americans paying in blood for Israeli arrogance and even more fed up with the racist superstitions that drives American foreign policy's ceaseless deference to Israel even against our own national interests. Israel's right to exist does not give it cover to practice fascism, engage in ethnic cleansing or commit acts of aggression against its residents, neighbors and allies!

Israel has become a spoiled brat enabled by decades of American policy that protects their interests rather than our own, no matter how shabbily Israel treats us in return. It's time we began treating that nation no differently than any other. End "affirmative action" for Israel.

BS. Little Israel, what are you so afraid of?

some of us know the significance of Israel.

Interestingly you apparently don’t find the irrational behaviour of the Islamofscist against Israel a problem.

I guess you think a NARCO-STATE on our Southern border is a good thing.

Submitting to evil will NOT make it go away.

When five million Arabs are surrounded by 350 million screaming Jews who desire their annihilation, then I’ll be harsh toward the Jews.

Israel is an unremovable splinter in the @ss of the Arab Muslim world.

Not to mention being the only true democracy in the Middle East and America’s only real ally in the region. If the Israelis are selling stuff to the Chinese, let the Obama regime present the facts and blast them publically.

Crash Course in Middle East History

Nationhood and Jerusalem

Israel became a nation in 1312 B.C., two thousand years before the rise of Islam. Arab refugees in Israel began identifying themselves as part of a Palestinian people in 1967, two decades after the establishment of the modern State of Israel.

Since the Jewish conquest in 1272 B.C the Jews have had dominion over the land for one thousand years with a continuous presence in the land for the past 3,300 years. The only Arab dominion since the conquest in 635 A.D. lasted no more than 22 years.

For over 3,300 years, Jerusalem has been the Jewish capital Jerusalem has never been the capital of any Arab or Muslim entity. Even when the Jordanians occupied Jerusalem, they never sought to make it their capital, and Arab leaders did not come to visit.

Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in Tanach, the Jewish Holy Scriptures. Jerusalem is not mentioned once in the Koran.

King David founded the city of Jerusalem. Mohammed never came to Jerusalem. Jews pray facing Jerusalem. Muslims pray with their backs toward Jerusalem.

Arab and Jewish Refugees

In 1948 the Arab refugees were encouraged to leave Israel by Arab leaders promising to purge the land of Jews. Sixty-eight percent left without ever seeing an Israeli soldier. The Jewish refugees were forced to flee from Arab lands due to Arab brutality, persecution and pogroms.

The number of Arab refugees who left Israel in 1948 is estimated to be around 630,000. The number of Jewish refugees from Arab lands is estimated to be the same.

Arab refugees were intentionally not absorbed or integrated into the Arab lands to which they fled, despite the vast Arab territory. Out of the 100,000,000 refugees since World War II, theirs is the only refugee group in the world that has never been absorbed or integrated into their own peoples' lands. Jewish refugees were completely absorbed into Israel, a country no larger than the state of New Jersey.

The Arab - Israeli Conflict

The Arabs are represented by eight separate nations, not including the Palestinians. There is only one Jewish nation. The Arab nations initiated all five wars and lost. Israel defended itself each time and won.

The P.L.O.'s Charter still calls for the destruction of the State of Israel. Israel has given the Palestinians most of the West Bank land, autonomy under the Palestinian Authority, and has supplied them with weapons.

Under Jordanian rule, Jewish holy sites were desecrated and the Jews were denied access to places of worship. Under Israeli rule, all Muslim and Christian sites have been preserved and made accessible to people of all faiths.

The U.N. Record on Israel and the Arabs

Of the 175 Security Council resolutions passed before 1990, 97 were directed against Israel. Of the 690 General Assembly resolutions voted on before 1990, 429 were directed against Israel.

The U.N was silent while 58 Jerusalem Synagogues were destroyed by the Jordanians. The U.N. was silent while the Jordanians systematically desecrated the ancient Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives. The U.N. was silent while the Jordanians enforced an apartheid-like policy of preventing Jews from visiting the Temple Mount and the Western Wall.

These are incredible times. We have to ask what our role should be. What will we tell our grandchildren we did when there was a turning point in Jewish destiny, an opportunity to make a difference?

They were probably being honest with the training claim.

Were Syria or Iran to go to war with Israel, it would behoove them to have had lots of training experience with damage control.

I suspect that the Egyptian military said no to passage of the warships through the Suez Canal and gave the Iranians the courtesy of announcing changed plans.

The last thing Egypt needs right now is some hopped up Iranians in Syria.

Yes I remember the U.S.S Liberty. Not a good day for Israeli/American relations nor was the Pollard spy scandal. Still I support Israel but they do try my patience sometimes.

[Yep....lots of reasons for “accidents” in that trip.]

Also the possibility of underwater collisions between submarines from half the navies in the Free World shadowing these guys by the time they reach the Med.

Arming Hizbullah is illegal. Nice how you despise Israel so much that you shill for those who want to destroy America.

Where is the fascism? As for ethnic cleansing, the only ethnic cleansing Israel has committed in generations is that of Jews being expelled from Gaza, parts of Judea and Samaria, and in 1979 from Sinai.
And you area allying yourself with Iran and Hizbullah, who wish to destroy the Great Satan. Your loyalty is to hatred of Israel over any to American. Congratulations.
Grievance rots the mind.

Like giving up territory and security to protect the US in 1991?
