Poll indicates strong Tea Party support for Romney in NH
Boston Globe ^ | Feb 15, 2011 | Matt Viser

Former Governor Mitt Romney has struggled to attract support among Tea Party activists in pockets throughout the country, but he appears to have secured broad support among the movement's supporters in New Hampshire.

In a new WMUR poll, his favorability among supporters of the Tea Party is strikingly high - 77 percent and far exceeds any other candidate.

Among Tea Party supporters, Romney's favorability numbers were far higher than even candidates who are viewed as closely aligned with the movement, such as Sarah Palin (whose favorability was 48 percent), Ron Paul (43 percent), and Newt Gingrich (53 percent).

The attention paid NH and Iowa is ENTIRELY media driven.

Bingo! It is media-driven so the left can choose the next GOP nominee...

Many will protest that the NH State Legislature turned ‘red’. It sure did...a ‘Charles Bass-Judd Gregg-Susan Collins-Jim Jeffords’ shade of ‘red’. A number of libertarian ‘Free Staters’ were elected to the legislature, as well...by running as ‘Republicans’, natch.

And '08? One word ... MCCAIN! He would have lost by 20% if not for Sarah!

Romney won the NH Primary in 2008 among registered Republicans...it was crossover Democrats that helped propel McCain to victory.

Cool. Romney can be President of New Hampshire then.

Keep those numbers handy. They will be needed to prop up the weak kneed around here.

He does have a 'summer estate' in the elitist town of Wolfeboro...

Sarah Palin is relatively unpopular here...

Understatement of the year.

Willard is the only politician I have seen flip-flop and lie as much as Slick Willie.

Not defending Willard, but he ain't even in the top ten. Looking at the current administration, I doubt he would even make the top 100.

He's just another northeast Republican in the same mold as the Bush / Rockefeller / Dewey families. Nothing more and nothing less. Dewey was better than the Rockefeller gang. The Bush family was better than Dewey. If I were a betting man, I'd bet the Romney family would be slightly better than the Bush family, but only because they don't have quite as long of a political pedigree.

The libs want Romney to run against Obama. Even if Romney wins, they believe at least parts of Obamacare will be salvaged.

LOL! I can't disagree. If the libs were smart, they would oust ObaMao and run Mitt as a Democrat. They could then claim they were moving to the middle and have a fairly decent chance of keeping the presidency (depending on who the GOP runs). But they won't do this because they want to pick the candidates from both parties. In 2008, they actually did.

The primary state should be chosen on a rotational basis.

A step in the right direction. NH is in desperate financial trouble, though...they need the revenue that is generated by their 'First in the Nation' primary status. Fill those hotels and restaurants, baby...with a 9% sales tax on those items; the media circus and candidate support staff should help fill the coffers.

Well, Sarah isn't exactly despised (the way she is in large swaths of our neighboring states), but mostly as a cultural matter, I don't think her personal style wears well here. Many of us NH types are kinda grumpy and taciturn by nature - we normally don't go for big yakkers and self-promoters...which makes Romney's relative popularity a bit surprising, even given the fact of his local residence.

Since NH is the 'least religious' state in the nation; I'm sure her Christianity doesn't endear her to many people, either...

I think he'd be a Bush 41 clone. He can't be trusted not to raise taxes or to appoint judges to the SCOTUS.

I can’t think of a single successful politician in the past 50 years who never flipped on anything.

So, you believe he went from rabidly pro-abortion (attending PP fundraisers, $50 abortions in his health care plan and openly saying he was pro-choice) to being pro-life in a couple of years? Romney is a liar.

This is the same guy that when he was exposed as a liar for saying his father marched with MLK Jr. said he meant he saw his father doing so in his mind. IF THAT DOESN'T SEND A RED FLAG UP, YOU HAVE INCREDIBLY LOW STANDARDS FOR WHO YOU'D CONSIDER VOTING FOR. He is a liar on a level with Bill Clinton.

About the only thing he hasn't flip-flopped on is Romneycare, which has been absolute disaster in Massachusetts.

If Romney is the nominee, I would fully support the Tea Party running a third-party candidate. Under that scenario, a Sarah Palin or Michele Bachmann could win as a third-party candidate.

Great. Hope that works out for you. I’ll stick with the GOP. I too was once pro-choice. And I changed in a fairly short time. And George Romney, apparently, DID march with Dr. King. There are numerous witnesses to this.

Feel free to question my standards for a candidate. I’ll feel free to question the practical reality of yours.

Romney admitted he lied about his father doing so:

Romney had to admit he didn’t actually see it. But other witness claim they did see the two in the same march.

For me, no big deal. The point was that George Romney was a champion of civil rights. Good for him!
