You mention Steve Goodman, who wrote one of my favorite songs “The City of New Orleans”. Great song writer, sorely missed.

I do confess that I like Arlo’s studio version better than Steve’s faster paced recordings. I guess the song could be a drinking song, too, as Steve recounts sharing a bottle from a paper bag with the old men in the club car on the train (song was inspired by trip he took on the City of New Orleans with his family, as I recall).
