Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) took to the House floor Tuesday night to criticize what she called a "demeaning" Pepsi ad that aired during the Super Bowl.
In the ad for Pepsi Max, a black woman sitting on a park bench gets angry with her husband after an attractive, white female jogger sits down next to the couple and smiles and waves at the man.
After the man smiles back, his girlfriend or wife gets angry and whips her Pepsi Max can at him. The man ducks, and the can hits the attractive jogger in the head. The ad is titled "Love hurts."
Jackson Lee said it was ridiculous for the soft drink maker to air the advertisement during African-American history month.
"In this month of African-American history where we're trying to celebrate what is good and great, it certainly seems ridiculous that Pepsi would utilize this kind of humor," she said. "It was not humorous. It was demeaning an African-American woman throwing something at an African-American male and winding up hitting a Caucasian woman."

I bought a life insurance policy from Nationwide about 20 years ago, At the same time I bought home owners ins. from them.
10 years later my lawn mower threw a rock through my neighbor’s sliding glass doors. Nationwide paid around $1,000 for the claim and promptly almost doubled my premiums. I changed companies at that time on my home owners and they didn’t hold that claim against me, I got lower rates from my new company than the original Nationwide policy and more coverage. I have, however, kept the life policy.
Thanks for the heads-up, GB58. I am content with Allstate.
I’m white and I did not like that commercial.
African-American history month
We have to stop this hyphenated crap. How do I know the difference between someone whose roots are from Africa or someone from Haiti for instance? They are all black/brown. I call a person of the dark persuasion African/American and if he is from Haiti or Jamaca, is he allowed to punch me out? All this $hit started with Jesse Jackson and his family has a longer American history than my family! He should be a proud AMERICAN. I don’t know of any white pepole who hyphenate their nationality. GROW UP PEOPLE. We all have red blood and pink skin. Look at a black man’s palms!
Aretha Franklin?
That's what Walgreens calls it.
“I thought it was black history month.”
Not since we got an African in the White House.
(For the DUmmies reading this bear in mind that Michelle Obama says her husband is an African with his ‘home country’ being Kenya. I’m just going by what she said.)
Did I not get the memo that is is now African-American history month instead of Black History month?
When the black couple ran off, the black woman turned around, looked down at the white woman, and shouted “SORRY!” in a high-pitched voice which sounded like she really WAS sorry.
It’s just a Super Bowl commercial. The whole point of the commercial was that the black guy found a low calorie snack that his wife approved of.
Bob, I hope nobody throws anything at your wife or daughter’s head, knocking them out, thinking it’s funny.
Like you do.
Yep. And the worst, most vile and racist show on TV is that Quinones 24 hours show or whatever that is, where in every episode, there is a bogus psychodrama play where white guys are made to look like cruel, bigoted, anti-minority homophobes.
The Nazis did “newsreels” about the Jew-rats just like that.
Building up to the big Two Minute Hate. Kill whitey!
Awesome post at 141.
You do get, that the subtext is just as evil as what the Nazis did in the 1930s, with the “Jew-rat” newsreels?
I mean, you are not THAT dense, to not get the subtext, don’t you? It’s okay to knock out white women and run away. Hell, it’s funny. I’ll bet a lot of gangsta thugs just LOVE that ad.
Which you are too f-ing dense to even GET.
And so, I'm sure we can expect a similar ad real soon, where two whites KNOCK OUT a black woman, and run away laughing?
You are another moron.
PS: Giant corps like Pepsico test all ads against beta groups with “like-o-meters.” Pepsi is popular among the black demo, more than Coke. They KNEW the black audience was going to LOVE that knock-out-whitey video, because THEY PRE-TESTED THE EVERLOVING THING!
So what does that tell you about a company, that they ran an ad making a JOKE about violence against a white woman, because the KNEW blacks would love it?
Are you really too dense to understand what happens in front of your own two eyes?
Imho, it was a racist ad. It’s funny if a black woman hits a white woman in the head with a can of soda? Really?
I thought the ad was one of the nastiest, right next to the one where they killed a baby by throwing the baby into a plate glass window. The subtext of the ad was basically Its Funny to Attack White People
*******************************
Agreed.
What's the diff?
I was offended that the ads were universally dull or stupid or both.
Super bowl ads are supposed to be special. that was a stupid ad. But nothing really racist about it, ‘cept that, when you think about it, a black woman would be more likely to throw something at her man than a white woman.
(I could be wrong about that)
