No, that's just the typical human propensity towards evil.
One does not preclude the other.

*Now* I know who to root for in this Egyptian mess. God bless Vice-President Cheney...I wish things had worked out differently and he could have been president!!
Oh really?! And how many "real" conservatives would have spent countless hours during those years ripping a President Cheney over his lesbian daughter, and his support of gay marriage? Hmmmm...?
I wish "real" conservatives would be honest with themselves, if not anyone else. There is no one on the planet ideologically pure enough for them.
perhaps your misspelling of ally is similar to a freudian slip. He is a liar, or his friendship of the US is a lie. ;^)
Why? He's a private citizen who has gone above and beyond in serving this country. Far too many "real" conservatives and Republicans have treated him with nothing but venom. He owes nobody anything. He wants out of politics now, and he deserves to enjoy every minute of his retirement in any way he so chooses to spend the time.
GWB is a far better person than I am. If I were in his shoes, I'd spit on the lot of you types who think only you have all the right answers to every issue 100% of the time.
I agree. It ticked us off when the Mexican president tried to tell us what to do, and it has the same outcome with any country. Can we (USA) ever learn to keep our nose out of entangling alliances and start to actually defend the USA' borders and ports for a change? Why is this simple Constitutional concept the lowest priority to our government, when it should be number one?
If we don't learn to rein in our global ambitions we are going bankrupt. Most of these deals with dictators, and other crazy religious or fascist groups have backfired on us.
I disagree. Mubarak was a convenient thug. We need to stop propping up people like Mubarak. It is a fruitless endeavor and it keeps the Middle East from going through the change that is needed to eventually bring it into the modern age. I used to believe in the idea that we have to maintain stability in the Middle East to protect our interests in resources and Israel but eventually you have to tally what it has gotten you. We are paying out billions in Aid to regimes that are filthy rich in Oil money. Israel is no closer to resolving its conflict with the constantly antagonistic and chronic victims the Palestinians who receive billions from the world and still manage to live like rats. We have our military building domestic infrastructure in a country with oil reserves that rival Saudi Arabia and not a mention of ever recovering costs.
The America tax payer is being duped by these internationalists like Cheney. I respect him more than Obama but I’m not going to go on with the facade that has just cost us blood and treasure and tied us up in knots in the MiddleEast while crippling domestic energy development.
Let us consider what will happen if the Middle East is allowed to go through its natural path. The old arab aristocracies fall and the old dictators are purged. The people finally have a say in these countries that are majority Muslims. Is the daily life in these countries going to change? Not really but a crucial step will have been taken. Iran is gloating now but the religious theocracy will not hold forever. These Islamist countries will never approach the America flavor of Democracy but they will reflect the will of their people and that is a place to start from. If we accept the horrid notion that some people are too horrid to govern themselves then it gives strength to the liberal/socialist cause that people need centralized management of their lives.
Will the flow of Oil be interrupted? I’m sure it will but let us think about the opportunity that will offer us. It will totally decimate the leftist opposition to domestic energy development. Rolling blackouts, energy rationing will kill socialists leftist dreams and finally open up the political path to a Domestic Energy Renaissance in the US.
The other positive is that the wall that we are approaching with entitlements, debt, and the deficit will be hit. The impact to the economy will be significant and suddenly we will be faced with the dire reality of having to cut govt to the core. I consider that a good thing.
We can deal with Islamists that hate us. Israel is strong and would be stronger if we didn’t muzzle them. The one thing we can’t do is pretend that we can hold humpty dumpty together indefinitely. We are deluding ourselves. What we can do is stop pretending we can control things we can’t, take the pain, and end up with a stronger country for it.
The left will be decimated if oil hits $200 a barrel for any significant amount of time. It is time to embrace history and stop hugging tyrants. The dominoes are in place for great change here as well as the Middle East. It is time to let them fall.
Oh so true!! I ache for leadership once again in our White House , Congress and the Senate!!
Dick Chaney was a real conservative!!! Bush was ok but not the best President we ever had! I didn’t like his open borders policy his caving on the budget and he should have stuck to his guns on Fannie and Freddie. That is what you have a veto pen for and he never used or rarely used it!!!!!!!!!
Bush won’t say anything about Obama or criticize him!
VP Cheney’s statement, which I heard for the first time this morning, is a breath of fresh air in the current frenzy over the “crisis” in Egypt.
The O’Barack administration, as usual, is badly mishandling foreign policy either by stupidity or by design. His publicly calling for Mubarak to step down was a huge blunder.
Egypt was barely on anyone’s radar until the mobs took to the streets. When Christians were killed IN CHURCH at Christmastime in Egypt, the story came and went as barely a blip on the international screen.
Now that there is general violence in the streets of Cairo, already dubbed a “revolution” by a sympathetic media, Mubarak is the world’s Bad Guy.
Does ANYONE currently so very concerned about the “plight” of the Egyptian people recall EVER caring about them BEFORE?
Then, he wouldn't be so willing to sit back and watch the dominoes fall that have been set in motion and -- in fact -- nudge the momentum a bit himself. It is a dangerous time and he is a dangerous man to have in the sacred office of POTUS. Let's say our thanks to all the dumbass BHO voters.
WTF are you babbling about, Francis?
Amen!!
You're not alone in that sentiment.
They have been having "back channel" talks.
He is not obliged to. He’s retired and wants nothing more to do with politics. I can’t say as I blame him.
This is a well planned take over of Egypt. . . code pink, unions, Muslim Brotherhood, etc. with the approval of the US White House.
