Rand Paul: End 'welfare' to Israel
Politico ^ | February 4, 2011 | Jennifer Epstein

Tea party-backed Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) isn’t sure that congressional Republicans have the guts to make the big budget cuts they’ve promised and, he said, members of the movement are becoming frustrated.

“There’s a disconnect between Republicans who want a balanced budget but aren’t maybe yet brave enough to talk about the cuts to come,” the freshman senator said in an interview with ABC News, responding to the spending plan released Thursday by the House Budget Committee chairman, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), which would cut non-defense discretionary spending by $58 billion for the rest of fiscal 2011.

“I go to a tea party, and you know what they say to me? ‘It’s not enough. It’s not enough. Where’s the other trillion you need?’” Paul said. He’s offered his own budget plan that would cut spending by $500 billion this year, including an end to all foreign aid and a dramatic reduction to the U.S. Department of Education’s budget.

Paul, son of libertarian Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), said he is a “true believer,” determined to stand by his tea party values and not get bogged down falling in line with the GOP.

“There are always problems in our nation’s capital that are more important than party affiliation, and I will always believe that,” Paul said. “It’s not necessarily tea party versus Republican Party, but I would say that if you ask me what’s more important — tackling our nation’s deficit, our nation’s debt problems or being a Republican — I would say tackling the debt.”

Paul also defended his calls to end aid to Israel, saying they’re just part of his bigger efforts at fiscal responsibility. “I’m not singling out Israel. I support Israel. I want to be known as a friend of Israel, but

>His father Ron Paul has been and is a nut and it looks like his son Rand Paul is an ANTISEMITE and a nut as well.
>
>Almighty God has promised the following regarding HIS special people Israel: “I will bless those who bless you and CURSE those who curse you.” Hey Rand Paul... that goes for America too!

While it is true that God promised curses to those who curse Israel, and blessings to those who bless, how is cutting off monies [which we really don’t have] a curse to them? Moreover, if America ceases to exist — and our own foolishness with money suggests it will — how can God bless the country?

God says that He will not be mocked: that one reaps what one sows.
Is not giving away money we cannot afford to give, and then claiming that God is obligated to us simply because it was Israel we gave to, a form of mocking God?
Didn’t Egypt also give much riches to Israel when they departed under Moses? Yet would you ever claim that God had an obligation, because of those gifts, to Egypt?

>It looks like Rand Paul wants to throw Israel under the bus. It is the same old song and dance: “It’s all the JEWS fault.” ... “If we get rid of Israel and the Jews and our support for Israel then all of our problems will be solved and the world will love us.”

Excuse me, but it seems that he is suggesting to end *ALL* foreign aid; how is this a symptom of the “It’s all the JEWS fault.” mentality?
In fact there IS a biblical precept that is applicable to SUPPORT his position:
1 Timothy 5:8 — But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

Now is the US’s ‘own’ the US Citizen, or Israel, or any other foreign government/power?

>America... Israel is the ONLY free nation and true friend America has in the Middle East and Rand Paul and his ilk want to bring the curse of almighty God upon America by throwing them under the bus!

And it is America’s own foolishness with money — and [in]Justice towards its own — which is destroying it.

>Rand Paul, does not represent the Tea Party, he does not represent CONSERVATIVES and he does not represent me. He makes me ashamed to be an American!

I’m sorry, but I believe you are utterly wrong here. Rand Paul’s proposal is FAR more American, and far more Conservative, than your whole argument has been.

Yeah, the Paulphobics are out in force.

Well, not only are we broke, we're bankrupt heavily into negative numbers. Whether Israel needs, deserves, or wants US aid is completely irrelevant.

WE ARE OUT OF MONEY. FOR ANYTHING. FOR EVERYONE.

Today is a good day to die.
I didn't say for whom.

If we keep up debt and spending binge, ultimately granny will freeze in the dark on the day before we finally cut off foreign aid to Israel, Egypt, and the other welfare bums.

Israel relies on that aid for its very existence.

I wish apologists for this aid would get their stories straight. This contradicts their usual rationalization for this welfare program e.g. "it isn't really welfare and the U.S. actually makes money from it."

Oh, do we make money from it? Well even better then.

God wouldn’t want it any other way, and there are people in both countries who will tell you that with a straight face.

No “we” don’t make money from it anymore than “we” made money from tobacco subsidies. The advocates of this welfare program have no shame in their effort to bleed the American taxpayer.

I agree with him and most Americans I know agree. Why do we support other nations when our own is drowning in debt? Nowhere in the founding fathers' documents have I read that the government retains the right to take my hard earned dollars (or yours) and send it to anybody, let alone non-Americans.

Hmm. Study much geography? I didn't think so.

Iran is not "Arab land". The Persians are not Arabs. And rather obviously, neither are Pakistan or Afghanistan. Pakistani's are Muslim Indians.

Meanwhile to the other sides of your map the Arab lands extend through all the way to Morocco on the Atlantic Ocean.

It would be a better graphic if it wasn't so obviously, blatently wrong.

It was a graphic representing how Israel was surrounded by her enemies I pulled off the Internet. Before giving someone crap I suggest you really really find out who you’re posting to.

Heard Michael Scheuer, former head of the Bin Laden Unit, say the same thing as Paul(s)!

Michael Scheuer. That guy creeps me out.

How about we end foreign aid to every country that is not Israel and Taiwan? How about we stop sending farm subsidies to Brazilian farmers? How about we ignore anyone whose last name is Paul?
