Tea party-backed Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) isnt sure that congressional Republicans have the guts to make the big budget cuts theyve promised and, he said, members of the movement are becoming frustrated.
Theres a disconnect between Republicans who want a balanced budget but arent maybe yet brave enough to talk about the cuts to come, the freshman senator said in an interview with ABC News, responding to the spending plan released Thursday by the House Budget Committee chairman, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), which would cut non-defense discretionary spending by $58 billion for the rest of fiscal 2011.
I go to a tea party, and you know what they say to me? Its not enough. Its not enough. Wheres the other trillion you need? Paul said. Hes offered his own budget plan that would cut spending by $500 billion this year, including an end to all foreign aid and a dramatic reduction to the U.S. Department of Educations budget.
Paul, son of libertarian Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), said he is a true believer, determined to stand by his tea party values and not get bogged down falling in line with the GOP.
There are always problems in our nations capital that are more important than party affiliation, and I will always believe that, Paul said. Its not necessarily tea party versus Republican Party, but I would say that if you ask me whats more important tackling our nations deficit, our nations debt problems or being a Republican I would say tackling the debt.
Paul also defended his calls to end aid to Israel, saying theyre just part of his bigger efforts at fiscal responsibility. Im not singling out Israel. I support Israel. I want to be known as a friend of Israel, but

Or not.
What, you think throwing freedom-loving people to the wolves is “moral”?
Cutting off Israel is always at the top of the wish list of the Paul faction. Why do you think that is?
I think we should mind our own business. Let God take care of things over there.
Given that the US government is increasingly inclined to hold hands with (dubya) and bow to (zero) those who pull the jihads’ strings, perhaps it were best that Israel not be beholden to America for anything.
The Paulyps are idiots!
Ok, let’s give the entire ME over to radical Islam shall we?
Can you imagine the result? They will gain such power and strength, that this country will eventually see Mushroom clouds over it’s large metropolitan establishments.
But what the hey, IT’s NONE OF OUR DAMNED BUSINESS! RIGHT!?...........Right?..............hello?
I have no doubt that confidential conversations telling the Israelis to STOP were given by all our so-called leaders.
Clearly, Iran is the leash holder of the Hezbollah dog, and should have been stopped then and there. Instead, not just Israel, but our leaders ALSO, did not rain ruin on them, but allowed them to have great success, thus emboldening them for future attacks.
Surely the wrong signal to send, no?
Hezbollah wasn't reeled in, but Israel was. What a messed up world!
They didn't want to do anything that would have given the US a reason to cut their aid package. Cutting off aid would have the good result of allowing them to do what they feel is necessary without concern for what the US State Dept has to say.
As far as Rand Paul: he want to cut ALL foreign aid. The MSM is just harping about the Israeli part to drive a wedge between Paul and pro-Israel conservatives.
And the UN!
The only solution is to disembowel the welfare state.
He’s not singling Israel out, but the effect on Israel would be unique. Unlike other countries, Israel relies on that aid for its very existence. Those other countries aren’t surrounded on all sides.
Another angle: Israel is the one sane country in a sea of craziness. It is democratic, it is productive, its population is pro-American. It would be cruel to cut off aid to Israel just because we cut it off to all the other sleazebag nations we send aid to. To do so would superficially be fair in the sense of being consistent, but in fact it would amount to an unfair singling out of Israel since Israel is the one nation that is worthy of our aid. Israel deserves to be dealt with according to a different rule.
That is my take, or better said I think Israel is approaching that point in time.
I also sort of think that “welfare” be it domestic, or international, is incredibly corrosive to the Societies that receive it, I’m not speaking of selling the Israeli’s advanced military technology as they must have that to leverage their military capacities, I am thinking of the idea that it would be better for the Israelis to develop their own tech to sell to the rest of the world and strengthen themselves thereby.
When Israel first became a State they had to scrounge for whatever military equipment they could find, including using fmr Messerschmit P-109’s and Thompson sub machine guns, that forced them to develop their own internal capacities and they then developed the Uzi and Galil rifles, now with US aid, they appear to be using M-4 carbines.
To me, that is a move in retrograde, they may never be able to build f-22’s, but to me it should be a point of pride that Israeli Soldiers use small arms designed and built by Israeli industries..imho.
Did you read the whole story? It’s not long. The headline writer made the headline as attention-grabbing as he could, which is what they do, but Rand Paul said he wanted to cut ALL foreign aid. He wants to be a friend to Israel, he said, but he wants to get our financial house back in order. In all fairness, he was just saying he wants to cut all foreign aid, which is bleeding us dry, and the interviewer said something like “What about Israel? Are you saying you’re in favor of cutting off aid to Israel?” Paul said he’s not focusing on them, simply focusing on our financial situation, which is dire.
“I think we should mind our own business. Let God take care of things over there.”
Luke 10
25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
26 He said to him, What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?
27 So he answered and said, You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,[a] and your neighbor as yourself.[b]
28 And He said to him, You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.
29 But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor?
30 Then Jesus answered and said: A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. 33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 On the next day, when he departed,[c] he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you. 36 So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?
37 And he said, He who showed mercy on him.
Then Jesus said to him, Go and do likewise.
IMHO it is in America’s best interest to “bless” Israel, both financially and otherwise.
I have always felt that one of the reasons that America has been so blessed, is because the scripture is true - bless Israel, and you will be blessed.
Get real, granny will freeze in the dark before aid to Israel is cut off. I don’t know why he even mentioned Israel.
Don’t see the connection. Taking sides in a war on the other side of the world isn’t the message I get from the parable.
What would be best would be for MORE Americans to become involved in the electoral process in an intelligent and informed manner and cease electing idiot globalists of limited intellect to office.
That MIGHT just counter the influence of the evil international globalist corporations whose only sense of “patriotism” is tied to how much profit they can accrue.
Indeed — and I am all for cutting back on MOST foreign aid. But there are SOME nations we simply can’t afford NOT to send aid to. Israel is most certainly one of those very few nations — for a multitude of reasons. Just my take.
And that the press “trapped” Rand into making that kind of statement isn’t a surprise to me and shouldn’t have been a surprise to him. He knows by know what to expect from the MSM.
