Tea party-backed Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) isnt sure that congressional Republicans have the guts to make the big budget cuts theyve promised and, he said, members of the movement are becoming frustrated.
Theres a disconnect between Republicans who want a balanced budget but arent maybe yet brave enough to talk about the cuts to come, the freshman senator said in an interview with ABC News, responding to the spending plan released Thursday by the House Budget Committee chairman, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), which would cut non-defense discretionary spending by $58 billion for the rest of fiscal 2011.
I go to a tea party, and you know what they say to me? Its not enough. Its not enough. Wheres the other trillion you need? Paul said. Hes offered his own budget plan that would cut spending by $500 billion this year, including an end to all foreign aid and a dramatic reduction to the U.S. Department of Educations budget.
Paul, son of libertarian Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), said he is a true believer, determined to stand by his tea party values and not get bogged down falling in line with the GOP.
There are always problems in our nations capital that are more important than party affiliation, and I will always believe that, Paul said. Its not necessarily tea party versus Republican Party, but I would say that if you ask me whats more important tackling our nations deficit, our nations debt problems or being a Republican I would say tackling the debt.
Paul also defended his calls to end aid to Israel, saying theyre just part of his bigger efforts at fiscal responsibility. Im not singling out Israel. I support Israel. I want to be known as a friend of Israel, but

You know what they say:
“the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree...
How about ending aid to Hamas and those Middle East states that sends out terrorists?????
its time to stop borrowing money from china and giving it to other countries. end all aid to everyone or until we pay off the 14 trillion we already owe
Why are all freaking librarians nuts????
If that is your only criticism (was it?), you have no beef with Rand Paul since he has called for cutting off welfare to BOTH Israel in the Arabs.
Nuts? You want to steal other people’s money and you call us nuts!
Yeah Rand, lets de-fund our friends and strengthen our enemies. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
Like Billions for jihad?
Obamas 2009 Supplemental Appropriations for Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Pandemic Flu was revised and “passed by the full committee.” Not sure what the next step is, but based on the summary, it gives billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars to countries and entities that support Sharia law and/or harbor, hide and support those who want to destroy the U.S. and our allies.
Read the summary from David Obeys office that was quietly released last week with nary a word from any media.

The mainstream media remains silent on this but the www.thenews.com.pk/top_story_detail.asp?Id=22164”>International News has now picked up the story — and then there is Obamas $108 billion IMF bailout scheme in addition to the Supplemental.
To be fair he would cut ALL foreign aid.
Welfare isn’t the right word - tribute is more appropriate. As for other countries - bribe money is more appropriate a term (Pakistan, Egypt etc).
Why should we cover the cost of our military providing security for other countries? A cost-plus basis of reimbursement would be more than fair. Europe, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and others can all afford to cover the cost plus a percentage - why not? If they don’t want to pay - then we leave. No baloney.
700+ bases in 120 or so countries is darned expensive - no more free ride for these sponges.
Actually they are more blowhard morons than nuts, and at least nuts have some value.
Hey Rand, if you’re reading this, how ‘bout you first focus on ending aid to 4th world sh!tholes that provide no vested interest in our national security.
what a friggin jackass.
The U.S. should be providing military aid to our RELIABLE allies - that includes Israel.
We SHOULD be cutting ALL aid to the U.N., and funds given to foreign ratholes where we have no strategic interest.
Paul should keep his mouth shut when it comes to foreign policy and stick to domestic issues. Like his father, he is as much a foreign policy idiot as the moron in the White House.
It's the Dewey decimal system
Egypt first.
Israel probably does not need our money; they may have benefited from us providing some technology, but it has worked both ways.
We use money to buy favors and influence. With a true, solvent friend you don’t need to do that.
We’re the ones who are not solvent. But if we were, and were handing out money for fun , Israel would be the last friend I cut off, preceded by Great Britain and Canada and Australia.
Well, this is a blanket cut off of all foreign aid, not just to Israel, I can see his point in desiring fiscal responsbility, however I also think that at this point in time he is off base.
A part of me also thinks that maybe the apron strings should be snipped as “Israel” has become much much softer than it used to be..that is to their peril.
