In his 2011 State of the Union Address, President Barack Obama said he wanted 98 percent of Americans to have access to a high-speed Internet connection within five years.
Within the next five years, we will make it possible for business to deploy the next generation of high-speed wireless coverage to 98 percent of all Americans, Obama said in his nationally televised address.
The president also used the State of the Union to tell parents it was their job to turn off the TV set and make sure their kids get their homework done and for the United States to do a better job of deploying broadband, saying that South Korean homes now have greater Internet access than we do.

“UPI reports that AT&T is facing a lawsuit that says AT&T routinely bills for 7 percent to 14 percent more data transactions than normally take place, which could blossom into a costly class-action case. Court papers claim that attorneys set up a test account for an iPhone, then closed all of its apps and left the device unused for 10 days. AT&T still billed the account for 2,292 KB of usage. ‘A significant portion of the data revenues were inflated by AT&T’s rigged billing system for data transactions,’ say court papers filed on behalf of AT&T customer Patrick Hendricks. ‘This is like the rigged gas pump charging you when you never even pulled your car into the station.’ Attorneys say they would file to have the case moved to class-action status, which makes the outcome relevant to all of AT&T’s iPhone accounts.”
He wants free broadband for the “poor”
do you think AT&T is billing extra for the “unlimited” contracts? I doubt it. lol.
South Korea is the size of Indiana.
Obama money

So saith the Flock!

You already do. It’s called the Universal Service Fund (USF).
I am middle-to-last-mile when it comes to internet. I’m just 30 miles west of Ann Arbor, MI, but the ONLY broadband I can get is through Verizon Wireless. I’ve got a rare Alltel grandfathered contract which means I don’t have a 5 Gig monthly cap, and pay $60 a month for 65KB down. The tower is maxed-out, mostly thanks to the ‘Droid and other byte-eating smartphones, and VZW has yet to do the antenna swap-out that should help.
Don’t even bring up satellite internet. It is *NOT* broadband.
I’m willing to pay more because I’m rural...I am NOT willing to pay for some pimpmama in Detroit with seven little spawners to have free internet access because some civil rights screamer is saying she has a *right* to it.
'In the ghetto' (in the ghetto!)
Bad. Bad.
Here I only have 3G on my iPhone and iPad, and paying for it.
I demand free 4G at once!!
right now the phones for welfare recipients are crap.
Assurance Wireless is their name I think.
They need Iphones now!
The Obama Porn 4 Kids Project
And he wants an Internet kill switch for what???
‘chirp chirp, where you at? phones’ for everyone in the da hood!
*South Korean homes now have greater Internet access than we do.
They also have better border security that we do. *
They also had the luxury of rebuilding their infrastructure from scratch a few decades ago. Anyone wanna go the same route here?

How is 65K broadband? I don’t get it. Dial up is 56k
Stand down, boy, this is not the government’s responsibility.
Oh, this is killing them (not literally). They just CAN’T STOP with the big brother/handout/regulation/PC game. They can’t get that NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR IT. It’s irrelevant except for the part where it makes things worse. But they can’t stop.
Mr. President, Where’s The Beef?
That and the right to granite counter tops in the projects. And crown molding.
Is there no end to the generosity of Il Douche? (Answer: not when someone else is paying for it).
