URGENT: Gunfire heard in Cairo's Tahrir Square as supporters of President Mubarak and anti-government demonstrators clash hours after the embattled leader defiantly said he would serve out his term in office.

At the pump, on tax day, into the foreseeable future, etc.. You’re right.
California is a “red” state, like Illinois is a “red” state, if looked at minus their liberal meccas. Get a thicker skin. Illinois downstaters are also tired of Chicago being the only story.
It is quite remarkable for people to be talking about the prospect for a democratic transition at this moment. A population that was convinced just two months ago that sharks in the Red Sea were implanted by the Israeli Intelligence Services is hardly at a stage of creating a liberal democracy in Egypt...Until someone actually starts addressing the real issues and stop the chatterbox of clichés on democracy, things will not get better at all.
The real issue is the one the author himself never discusses, unfortunately. The elephant in the living room is Islam. It is completely incompatible with democracy or in fact with any "rival" state, because it is itself a brutal, authoritarian political system and will not share power. The reason the ME has so many authoritarian governments (dictatorships or not) is that this is the only way to repress Islam and keep it from taking over.
I'm sure some of the more starry-eyed protesters probably thought they could have a secular democracy if they just wished hard enough, but Islam will not permit that and I think they have just opened the door to the worst and most oppressive form of government of all.
I REALLY want to know if Barry called him or if GHWB made the call to the White House first.
So we have an 86-year old former president who is taking charge, while the man-child frets in the White House. Great...
The article posted by SEMom at #219 (?) explains a little more of the economic background and another reason (aside from being a Muslim) that Obama is supporting the MB.
Apparently Egypt actually had a core of “technocrats” in the government who were trying to transition from an economy that was completely controlled and where everyone (particularly the poor) lived from what the government decided to give them to one that was basically a functioning capitalist economy. This, naturally, caused unrest as subsidies were cut back and people suddenly realized that if they wanted something, they had to work for it. The author feels that one of the results of this is that the centralized, government controlled (socialist) economy will now be reinstated with a vengeance, and in fact many of the “pro-democracy” protesters were actually calling for that and of course the MB is very pro-socialist. And we all know where Obama’s miserable excuse for a heart lies.
Tell that to all the thousands of family members of dead veterans.
You clearly support portraying veterans as freaks and queers, from state where more have died fighting than ANY state.
Nice touch!
Maybe Barry asked John McCain to call Bush 1.
Awful..

As brutal and evil that Saddam Hussein was, he did know how to keep his population under control and he understood the nature of Islam and how to keep IT contained.
Iraq is by far, not done yet! The Islamofascists are patient and they now have Mooky Al Sadre back in the country, slowly getting the Iranian Shiite factions a strong foothold. And the weaknesses of Dumbocracy is a perfect set up for Islam to take over.
This COULD be propaganda- but if not...
vinmoses: RT @SherineT: I have seen a police van moving towards tahrir square. State TV said police has been deployed and been told to open fire. #egypt #jan25

Well California owns its Deep Deep Blue Queer Cities for better or worse. Wanna go strutting with a California T-shirt on, better look at everything on it.

One of the reasons that we attacked Iraq first was that it already appeared very secularized (Saddam occasionally dressed up like Saladin, but that was about it - the mullahs weren’t running things) and Bush thought that people would adapt more easily.
However, he underestimated Islamic lunacy. If we had imposed a very rigid system for awhile, a few years, and not let them enshrine Islam in their constitution, there might have been hope. But we handled it all the wrong way, IMHO (dealing with Mookie, etc.).
Thanks mamma,
Be watching.........
I don’t believe Dubya had any concept of how weak kneed the rest of the world was going to get in this fight to clear out a terrorist nest that Saddam had been winking and nodding over, a nest which had gotten so bold it was no longer afraid to bomb a major American city. Dubya: “You’re either with us or against us.” World: “Say what?” Dubya: “(Oops!) Whatever.”
