Trump: Obama 'Isn't Doing Anything in Middle East'
Newsmax ^

Posted on 01/30/2011 10:47:21 PM PST by tsowellfan

In his exclusive interview with Newsmax, billionaire Donald Trump insists the United States must find a better way to deal with the dangers posed by the oil cartel OPEC.

“I think it’s unfair. I think it’s illegal,” he declares. “If you have a store and I have a store and we collude and set prices, we go to jail.

“Here you have 12 men, in this case all men, they sit around a table and they set the price of oil.

“Abu Dhabi, which has plenty of oil, just went to all natural gas for transportation because they want to sell us the oil at exorbitant prices. When you tell me about Obama and what he’s doing in the Middle East, I don’t think he’s doing anything in the Middle East.

“We have to do something about OPEC because that’s the life blood of the country.”

Unless Donald T. wants “global law” (shiver) the oil cartels are something that the world has to put up with. What the US can do is drill, baby, drill.

I disagree and probably the only part of Trump's rant I concur with.

The US and Western World could have stomped OPEC a long time ago...if it wanted to...at least in the beginning, when we had--and could have--exerted pressure.

Even now, if we had a Congress/Addministration with some stones, we could pass legislation that read: Henceforth, until OPEC is disbanded, any country who is a member, will receive 0 Foreign Aid or any other kind of assistance from us.

Putting on tinfoil hat: I would wager that there has been mucho under-the-table payoffs to certain influential Americans (both within and outside government) to NOT completely develop all of our resources--and in fact oppose at every turn efforts to do so (and that includes both Demo-Rats and Republi-Tards) that one can not simply look to the Enviro-Nuts as the sole obstacle for this policy.

Name me one elected Republican in the past 40 years who has moved vociferously and forcefully to explore and develop all of our natural energy resources....wherever?

In one way, Trump may be right in that if the entire Midlle East ends up one big Islamic-Republic zone, that could impact OPEC's influence, though I doubt it would destroy its overall structure and power.

And if as expected, the price of oil jumps to $150/bl or higher, that might just give impetus to the "Drill here, drill now" folks and Congress and Dear Leader will be hard pressed to oppose this.

I'd especially like to know what our social conservative hardliners have to say about the twice-divorced Donald.

Personally, in a four way runoff between Barack Obama, Ward Churchill, Sean Penn and Donald Trump, I -might- consider voting for Trump.

Hmm. Which type of liberal Democrat would you rather have in Chicago as mayor:

1. Someone too stupid to get anything done right.
2. Someone so smart that everything is done to maximum effect.

Additionally, a stupid one has the chance of being routed out of office someday. A smart one will stay there for decades.

I never finished it, and just threw it in the trash where it belongs. More socialist propaganda.

I listen to Trump talk about what the US should be doing and he makes perfect sense. Most of our stupid politicians know more about lying to their voters than they do about how to make something actually work. He might be sort of a bull in the china shop when it comes to diplomacy but currently we’ve got someone who bows to foreign leaders and look where that’s gotten us.

If he’s serious I’d be willing to give him a try....depending on the other candidates, especially Sarah.

I see Trump as a more sophisticated, business savvy version of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Probably a Rino underneath, but there are things I like about Trump.

Having said that, under specific circumstances, I might vote for him. Sarah vs Trump would be an immediate vote for Sarah. Trump vs Romney, or Huckleberry, would require careful consideration.

As I write this post, I’m starting to think he wouldn’t run to win, rather he would run to make waves, so this whole thing may be academic.

Probably the same thing they said about Ronald Reagan back in the mid 1970s
