Mubarak struggles to keep power

Mubaraks speech just after midnight, in which he dismissed his cabinet, was mainly a defense of his government and the imperative to maintain stability.
Protesters also voiced significant anger at the United States, rushing up to American reporters on the streets unprompted to ask why the United States continued to back the Egyptian government.
We are very disillusioned by President Obamas speech, said Muhammad Shafai, 35, a lawyer, who called for Barack Obama to distance himself from Mubarak.
In his speech Friday night, Obama took on a stern tone, saying he had personally told Mubarak that he needed to listen to his peoples demands for a better democracy. But the United States has counted on Egypt for help in the region, whether supporting American moves in Iraq or trying to defuse tensions between the Palestinians and Israelis.
In Sinai, officials said that the security police had withdrawn from broad portions of the territory, leaving armed Bedouin in control. At least five members of the police, both law enforcement and state security, were killed, officials said.
In Cairo, there were some ominous signs of a breakdown in order, with scattered reports of rampant looting and gangs of young men commandeering cars and smashing store windows.
The army moved to secure Cairo International Airport on Saturday as The Associated Press reported that as many as 2,000 people had flocked there in a frantic attempt to leave the country. International carriers reported delays and cancellations.

Civility, invent "stuff" & WTF?
The US will be the single focus of the rioters hate before this is over. We will be to blame for everything wrong in Egypt.
I can’t stand the fact that obama is president. But can someone tell me what they think he should do? From what I’ve read Bush wanted Mubarek out. It appears obama does, too, but is being very careful about what he says. (Can’t say the same for biden.)
Obama now has to put on his man-pants.
man pants ?.....this president wore Betty Boop jeans throw’n out a 1st pitch once
2346 Omar Temamy in Cairo says: "I am out in the streets along with everyone else protecting and rescuing our homes. Thieves have been going round robbing houses. We have even caught four prisoners. We tied them with ropes and the army came and took them away. They were escaped prisoners. People are waiting outside their houses with weapons. We are hearing bullets. It is crazy. In front of every building there are 20 people to protect it. Some criminals have been stealing ambulances and police cars and driving around. People have erected checkpoints and no one can get through without ID. I am in Mohandisin but all over the city it is crazy. I don't think that we will sleep. It is relatively quiet now. People are brave. It is very scary. I have never experienced anything like this before."
2320 Ramy Raoof in Cairo tweets: "People in Dokki who are in the streets guarding public/private properties just caught two thugs and are handing them to the army."
Reporting from Cairo, the BBC's Lyse Doucet tweets: "Text message on Mobinil: 'the army calls on egyptian patriots to stand up against looters and traitors to protect our families and precious.'"
2140 Kareem Bissada, who lives in Cairo, believes the protestors don't represent the majority of people in Egypt, telling BBC News: "Many sectors in the society want Mubarak to stay because, me as a person, I believe that this person, specially Mubarak, has preserved peace for Egypt for many years and it was not the case before."

Welcome to the club, pal. We're disillusioned with all of his speeches.
His failure may have been in not being as aggressive as Bush in pushing for Mubarek to implement democratic reforms before the country erupted.
At this point, though, I agree. He can’t really do much in this type of situation.
man pants ?.....this president wore Betty Boop jeans thrown out a 1st pitch once
lol...that's what I'm sayin'. He better not bring those panties to this fight.
Can’t you all see this is Islam , the most evil force in the world taking over a country? Islam is evil and a threat to every one of us. Obama doesn’t care because it is a Muslim or a democrat/socialist who love Islam.
He is making the matter worse.
There is nothing Obama can do to alter the current chain of events that are evolving.
Zero sticking his big nose in again. Telling Mubarak to listen to the people. Yeah, bozo, just like you did when we cried against the bailouts and healthcare.
You big, ugly, hypocrite!
Wonder why he couldn't find it in himself to make that speech to the Iranian mullahs?
Could it be that he favors enemies over allies?
Most Americans feel the same way. The only people who are impressed by Barry's speeches are welfare freeloaders, union thugs and girlymen in the liberal "media". I guess you need to throw a few RINOs in there too.
Barak Husain Obama
Hosni Mubarak
Prayers for their safety. We're not talking about just Egyptian heritage, but world heritage. The artifacts here must be preserved for all humanity, not just the tourist trade(albiet, that's pretty darned important too.)
