FIRST QUARTER FREEPATHON [THREAD XIV] "PUT THIS BABY TO BED"
Saturday, January 29, 2011 | onyx

Posted on 01/29/2011 12:40:41 PM PST by onyx

As most, if not all of you know, our FReepathon was immediately suspended when Jim informed us of the sad news that his cherished sister had passed away last Tuesday evening.

We all prayed for Jim and his grieving family and for his sweet sister's soul, knowing now, she is with Him in everlasting life, singing with the Angels.

Thank you all for your prayers and sweet sentiments. Jim read them all with deep and sincere appreciation.

Jim has asked me to revive the FReepathon, so please, dear FReepers, Let's GIR R DONE & PUT THIS BABY TO BED!

No. These are smaller and have skin flaps to help them glide. Their tails are different too.

Fiddlstix, I keep being puzzled at how many people cringe at the thought of killing an animal to eat. Our generation did that the same way Sarah still does. We hunted and killed Squirrel, Rabbit, Possum, Quail, Doves, and if times got really tough, Racoon and Groundhog. We also scoured the woods and fields for edible plants. Dandelion, Poke, Mustard, Water Cress,Cattails, Mint, wild berries, wild plums, Mulberries, Persimmons, Sassafras roots for tea. We were much healthier back then.

Mr. Bender needs a good, decent, fair chance at #1000

You were very gallant, GitmoSailor with regard to #900.

I think it’s mostly due to hunting laws....you can only eat “in season”. *sigh* More government help.

Read Nan’s #942.
In prior days, not now.
The berries and the greens sound very good to me.

They’re ground feeders and eat at night. They are endangered in a lot of places because people let their cats out at night.

Yep! You got it! I practically grew up with a gun in my hands. Hunting was almost an everyday occurrence. Killing animals for food was as normal as could be. If fact it was necessary. I sometimes find it hard be believe how much the world has changed in my lifetime.

That doesn’t mean much around here. The wardens can’t be everywhere and almost everyone has access to wooded farmland. If not your own, your friend’s. These folks watch out for one another. The law of the hills still applies, and the revenuers don’t linger too much.

Yes bats fly at night but we're talking about flying squirrels. They look like sugar gliders too. This is a flying squirrel.
