An act of diversity by the newly empowered Muslim peoples.
Who are we to object?

Will this be addressed by the mainstream media or will I have to be on FR 24 hours a day?

Donald Rumsfeld and George Bush are to blame.

While it's become a popular legend that the Sphinx's nose was shot off by Napoleon's cannoneers most serious historians/archaelogists believe it was in fact chiseled off a few hundred years earlier by a muslim fanatic named Muhammad Sa'im al-Dahr.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

If I'm understanding correctly, the Egyptians are saying that the police, ordered by Mubarak, are doing teh damage and blaming the people.

@bandidoofoz yes definitely most of these thugs are police in plain clothes. #Jan25
Dear Mubarak, collect your thugs, it's not working. You're sacrificing them. We're protecting the streets. #Jan25

It certainly appears that there are soldiers in the Museum.
There are always soldiers in the Cairo Museum.
Last time I was there, I offered a soldier 50 piasters (one half of an Egyptian pound) ... about 30 cents then, about ten cents now ... and asked if it was possible to see everything. He joyously took me through the room explaining everything on display. Then took me to the "room behind the room" where they were storing, cleaning, restoring and preparing more artifacts for new displays. Then he took me next door and introduced me to a buddy, where for another 50 piasters we repeated the process. Four hours (or so) later and $2.50 (or so) lighter, and I had seen things which are still not shown in television documentaries or in guidebooks (including a bunch of plunder from King Tut's tomb). It was awesome.
I would guess that if there is any serious gun play around the Museum, most of the artifacts will quickly disappear in the custody of the guards.

Been going on for years by radicals in the Middle East. Many great historical sites have been demolished.

Why do you believe the press over an Egyptian? These people want to govern themselves. They don’t want the muslim brotherhood either. Read the tweets.

I’m sure the Egyptian is lying. That’s why his story doesn’t match the press accounts because we KNOW the press is so honest.

Diversity in action, indeed.
Good luck Egypt, you survived a lot of stuff over the years.
Wished I could have seem more of your historic sites before this crap went down masquerading as revolution.
Mubarak is far from perfect.. but trust me, you don’t want to go down the same road as Iran.

He’s tweeting through Jordan. What do you think they’ll do to him if he’s caught? Mubarak shut down the internet for a reason.
