The Taliban and their treatment of the Buddha statues in
Aghanistan come to mind..
They’d blow’d ‘em up ..
Respect for those who came before and their beliefs..
It’s meaningless to barbarians and terrorists

To Egypt: we’ll take your mummies; you take our Muzzies.

I hate to hear this.
Even the Iraqis didn't destroy their ancient artifacts (they did steal some, but those have since been recovered) during their wild looting spree after the fall of Saddam in 2003.
In the early days of the war, we used to joke that the best base to be on was the one at Babylon (Babil) because even the terrorists seemed to respect the ancient sites and didn't mess with anything in the historical areas.

What could have been a nice country sinks deeper and deeper into barbarianism.

I just read a book The Great Deluge” about how this happened in N. Orleans after Katrina. Sorry folks, sorriness has no religious bounds.

I am not surprised, no respect for the heritage. This kind of think happened in Afghanistan when the Taliban destroyed ancient statues, etc., that were thousands of years old.
Just did not care.

I saw an article earlier in the week where the curator (Hawass) was arguing the need to return all antiquities to Eqypt.
Guess he lost that argument.
