WASHINGTON (JTA) -- U.S. Sen. Rand Paul wants to end all foreign assistance, including aid to Israel.
Paul, a Republican newly elected in Kentucky, was on CNN Wednesday outlining where he would cut the $500 billion in government spending he says is critical to sustaining the U.S. economy. His focus was on the departments of energy, education and housing.
Interviewer Wolf Blitzer then asked about foreign assistance, asking if he wanted to end "all foreign aid." Paul said yes, and Blitzer asked him about aid to Israel.
"Well, I think what you have to do is you have to look," Paul said. "When you send foreign aid, you actually [send] quite a bit to Israel's enemies. Islamic nations around Israel get quite a bit of foreign aid, too.
"You have to ask yourself, are we funding an arms race on both sides? I have a lot of sympathy and respect for Israel as a democratic nation, as a, you know, a fountain of peace and a fountain of democracy within the Middle East."
Blitzer pressed, "End all foreign aid including the foreign aid to Israel as well. Is that right?" he asked.
Paul answered, "Yes."

I had such high hopes for Rand Paul, that he wasn’t a fruitcake like his dad and then he goes and pulls this crap.

really? you want a new german army? a new Japanese army? that worked out great last time. embrace your destiny. we are the empire and yes we can and must afford it. we are the people who pay a very high price for peace for most of the world.

The idea that Israel, which is loaded with nuclear weapons and submarines, can’t defend itself at this point defies logic. The Israelis don’t Uncle Sam watching over them anymore.

Both of the Pauls are elected congressmen from our most conservative states, while you are a worthless paid rabble rouser shill.
And the Paul agenda is to isolate Isreal and our allies instead of claiming that we can pick and choose where to put our support. They push forth the false illusion that all foreign aid is bad in order to weaken our stance in the world and give aid and comfort to our enemies.
We badly need to address the foreign aid issue but to put forth a false claim that we need to treat all nations ‘equally’ regardless of their importance to us and their friendship is a deception of the Pauls.
I can’t say that I really care about the freedom of an Estonia.
It makes utterly no sense to subsidize Europeans with welfare either for they can prop up massive welfare states and elect anti-American politicians who do nothing but bash us.
Why are we doing that?
If welfare works for foreigners, why doesn’t it work domestically?
Who should pay for the maintenance of the American Empire you dream about - our grandchildren or American taxpayers?
Right now, you’ve got our grandchildren paying for it.
And Isreal is a very conservative ally of ours yet you support cutting them off in favor of some false premise put forth by the Pauls that we must cut-off all nations ‘equally’.’
What the Pauls preach is hardly conservative at all. Dad Ron thinks that homosecuality should be given special rights in our miltitary and he thinks that Iran has special rights to nuclear weapons.
Now his son wants to cut-off support for Isreal too.
And you want to have me banned for bringing these facts up as well claiming that FR has changed into a site that supports these claims.

Conditions are definitely different now than 4 years ago. It’s pretty simple, I think, just cut. There wasn’t a Tea Party talking about limited constitutional government 4 years ago.
You fail to make the distinction between welfare and National Security.
We do not suppport our allies based upon the concept of a welfare program but upon the concept of defending our nation and our National Security interests around the world.
