Actor Alec Baldwin has joined a list of elite New Yorkers targeted by tax collectors who think they're fibbing about where they really live to dodge New York City income taxes.
In recent years, auditors have confronted hundreds of super-wealthy New Yorkers over the residency rules - including star Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter.
Facing shrinking revenues, the state has ramped up its pursuit of suspected tax dodgers, hiring 189 new auditors and - for the first time - making filers swear under oath on tax forms as to how many days they "spend in New York City."
If it's more than 183 days and the filer has a residence in the city, the tax bill goes up

Jeter has already settled his tax issues.
He tried to say Florida was his primary residence but NY didn’t buy that story.

They still audit Limbaugh every year, and he hasn’t had a house there for a couple of years.

Only big liberal government would hire 189 agents to do what ATT does for free.

They'll be tracking your cell phone and handing out tax bills around the country based on how many nights you hang your hat anywhere. My local community, population 1,600 levies a tax on cell phones. "Only" 11¢ per phone, per month, what gripes me the most about it is, that I added a phone for my 90 year old mother, who lives in another area code and state and I get charged 11¢ for that one too. They do it because they can.

You’ll have to trim your mom’s dogfood ration to recover the difference huh? Is that you Dick Gephardt?

My point was that even a small town like mine can levy a usage tax on something that isn't even in the same state.
"They do it because they can".
I'm not Dick Gephart and my aged mother does not eat dog food.

I would think the good lib would volunteer to pay his fair share. lolI could not agree more! Taxes may be chump change to Mayor Bloomberg, Trump and others with mega-bucks but the general public has been brain washed. With costs rising, a worker has to make $100,000 to live on a rational $20,000 actual worth. That worked as wages increased but now it may be difficult to keep that fantasy working.
I think it was Arkansas that had a voluntary line on their tax forms for the liberals to pay more but so few did it that Arkansas stopped making the offer. LOL
Democrats want increased taxes. Okay, fine. Every Democrat should have a special tax imposed to give them what they want. Lower Republican taxes and increase Democrats taxes. A plan worth considering to save the children and provide for everyone. It's a win-win for everyone!

They will drive out a lot of high income earners. They already have, this will just make it worse. It will also be worse for those that stay.

One problem is the super wealthy can easily relocate to another country just like all of the us corporations that "WERE" in America.Great idea!RIGHT???Not as easy as you might think. If you try to take it with you they tax it at fifty percent, I believe.

When I escaped from Kalifornia years ago I closed my three businesses. Went to all the appropriate State agencies and closed all the accounts and paid everything off. Got closing statements for the whole works. About three years later some jack wagon from the Kalifonia State Franchise Tax Board showed up at my door in Nevada and demanded to see all my records. I told him to F’off. He stayed and banged on the door until I shoved a 12 ga up his nose. He went down the road and called the Sheriff to come out and force me to let him into my HOME. They showed up and asked me if I wanted him arrested. He then left and went back and tried to impound all of my funds in all banks in Nevada. took me two years and several lawyer letters to resolve it.

Sounds like you have a wonderful sheriff. How can they try to impound accounts in your banks in another state without some kind of litigation first? That’s scary.

Ex-Governor Patterson was all about soaking the rich with more and more taxes (at a time when these taxes were causing the “evil rich” to leave — remember Rush Limbaugh).
Mayor Bloomberg was well aware that a mere 44,000 New Yorkers funded 50 percent of the NYC budget for 8,000,000 people. He told Gov. Patterson to STFU — NYC couldn't afford to lose its tax base.
How soon the politicians walk back their positions. The residents of the Department of Revenue are like crazed locusts that eat everything in sight — and then some more.
