Republican South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint is opting out of an appearance at this year's Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), making him the latest Republican to the criticize what some have seen as a pro-gay tilt to the prominent conference.
"With leading conservatives organizations not participating this year, Senator DeMint will not be attending. He hopes to attend a unified CPAC next year," DeMint spokesman Wesley Denton told CNN.
Conservative groups including the Heritage Foundation, Tony Perkins' Family Research Council and Brent Bozell's Media Research Center are boycotting the event over the inclusion of GOProud, a gay conservative group. Other conservatives are upset Indiana Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels was invited to speak. Daniels called for a "truce" on social issues while the country works through its economic problems.
But the list of attendees for the February event includes Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.

Divide and conquer.
There are “conservatives” advocating lately that we welcome GOProud’s gay agenda ‘cause..... If you don’t you’re not conservative and you’re like radical Islamists or Stalinists or....
Andrew Brietbart of the “Big” sites just announced that he’s joined GOProud’s advisory council and there have been a couple of articles out of Horowitz’s network recently pushing GOProud and generally criticizing Christians.
All I need to know about the gay supporters within the GOP is embodied in the McCain girls joining the “Stop the H8” campaign in the ads with duct tape over their mouths. Agree with them or SHUT UP.
One of the ironies is that some of the people who are pushing GOProud vocally condemn Democrats engaging in identity politics.
I’m glad Jim is a principled man. The problem isn’t that some homosexuals think of themselves as conservatives. I’ve always been one to wonder why if they truly see themselves as normal than why would they be so obsessed with the politicization of their sexual behavior. A person who believes they are just fine doesn’t need to force others to tell themselves so. Unlike race gays have never faced the kind of discrimination or acts of violence here in the US that blacks have even though the media hyperventilates about the issue that they say conservatives shouldn’t care about. Gay activism is anti-liberty and requires big govt to achieve its goals. It doesn’t allow for freedom of speech because if you disagree with them then you are a ‘hater’ and deserve to have your thoughts/speech criminalize because you believe what is very logical and reasoned that the correct expression of human sexuality is through the union of a man and woman. Being gay is not like being of a different race which is something that can not be kept private nor something you can choose not to be even if you desired. Being black doesn’t not interfere with the heritability of an individual, homosexuality unquestionably does. Those issues however are secondary. If you start opening up conservatism to identity politics concerning sex you start a slippery slope. Suddenly an individual is not to be judged by the content of their character but instead by the novelty of their sexual label. Even now when you read some of the words of those who embrace GoProud they describe it as if they have acquired a fancy bracelet which is not to be analyzed or held to any standard simply to be shown off as a testament to their tolerance and open-mindedness as if to say “see I’m a Republican and now we have gays too which means I’m not mean and hateful”. It is an acceptance of the false rhetoric of the left the same damning political correctness and identity politics which is weakening our nation.
If you support people being discriminated against fired or silenced for nothing more than believing the correct expression of human sexuality is in the union of a man and a woman then go ahead and embrace GoProud but don’t pretend you are conservative or a defender of liberty.
CPAC Packers Unite!
That right there is proof that CPAC us no longer a Conservative gathering...
It has been infiltrated and turned.
Or would that be "packing the homo agenda up the posterior of the GOP"?
Also, as I’ve said before, there is no reason why homosexuals shouldn’t join conservative organizations—provided that they keep their sexual concerns to themselves.
As the Catholics once said, and put paid to an earlier, similar argument, there is no problem if homosexuals want to march in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade—as long as they don’t carry banners and try to make it into a gay pride parade. They can just quietly join the march.
GOPround has demonstrated that they have no interest in attending homosexual conventions and convincing gays to vote conservative. They have an interest in attending conservative conventions and convincing conservatives to support the usual radical homosexual agenda.
That’s not conservative.
Ok..that was funny..
Yes, what to men do in the privacy of a men's room or what a man and a struggling boy do in the privacy of a secluded alley is none of our business /sarc :-|
Good for DeMint, Brent Bozell; etc., for making a statement about allowing practitioners of a deadly perversion into a Conservative event. Conservatives set themselves up for explotation and humilation by being so tolerant of men who have sex with men. Remember Mark Foley?
NONE of those people can be trusted.
I hope Demint runs.. He is our saving grace.. Libs are too stupid to know who he even is.
YES!
He said he was going to be guided by ethics and principles instead of political expediency.
This is a positive step in that direction.
Sarah’s going to be there. I’m sure she’ll finally get around to explaining why she bumped Tammy Bruce’s pro-poofer/anti DADT tweet.
Probably the same time DeMint explains his love affair with Romney.
