Attorney General Kamala Harris enlisted California in the legal battle over health care Friday, joining eight other states in a court filing defending the new law's requirement that everyone obtain medical insurance.
The nine states, all with Democratic attorneys general, filed arguments with a federal appeals court in Cincinnati supporting the constitutionality of the law that's supposed to provide coverage for uninsured Americans. The law includes government subsidies for those who can't afford to buy health coverage and can't get it from their employer.
While the Republican-controlled House voted this week to repeal the law, a potentially more serious challenge is looming in the courts.
Four suits have been filed to overturn the law, one of them by 26 states. Last month a federal judge in Virginia ruled that a key provision, requiring all citizens to get health insurance by 2014 or pay a financial penalty, was unconstitutional because Congress has no power to force individuals to engage in economic activity.
Two other federal judges have upheld the individual insurance mandate, including a judge in Michigan whose ruling is now before the Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati. That's where Harris and her colleagues weighed in Friday.
A decision to either buy or not buy insurance is "economic activity" that affects interstate commerce, which Congress has the power to regulate, the attorneys general said . . .

Mexifornia, you are one big piece of work. Why don`t you just place yourself under Mexico`s flag, secede from the USA and be done with it.
Actually, the money is in the food crop of corn. Ethanol is or will soon be a pretty dead issue. The government is now trying to control food while not telling anyone they are growing especially in Africa large food crops of corn.

“That is because they want us to have o pay for thier moochers who they cant afford on their own.”
You got it. They want the Federal Gov. to pay for the illegals so they don’t have too.
No Just the Iowa “Attorney General(he is a BIG TIME Dem Obama toadie)”. The Governor of Iowa is joining alot of other states opposing ObambiCare.
Says it all.
“all with Democratic attorneys general”
Democrat. There is nothing remotely democratic about democrats.
oh not just those who can’t pay for their own (those I have less problem with helping) but those who CHOOSE not to pay cause they want stuff instead of taking care of their own families.
By that line of reasoning (stemming from the unfortunate 1942 SCOTUS decision in Wickard v. Filburn), what else can Congress regulate? A decision whether the citizen must buy or not buy any item in your local supermarket, for example is, within Congress' regulatory power. Big Brother would be controlling even the spending of money citizens are allowed to keep after taxes. This is not the "road to serfdom," this is serfdom.
Furthermore, there is reasonable argument to be made that health insurance currently is not interstate commerce at all, because policies can't be purchased across state lines.
