When I first saw "Lolita" in 1964 as the late night movie on TV, I was horrified at the whole idea. Then I read Nabokov's book and came to understand the mind of the men who chase underage "nymphets". The second time I saw the movie, I understood how it was intended to be a kind of twisted black comedy.

The recent cable version with Jeremy Irons was closer to the book, but lacked the humor that Stanley Kubrick injected into the movie. Maybe it's because James Mason portrays a more sympathetic character than Irons.
