Israel Tests on Worm Called Crucial in Iran Nuclear Delay

The Dimona complex in the Negev desert is famous as the heavily guarded heart of Israel’s never-acknowledged nuclear arms program, where neat rows of factories make atomic fuel for the arsenal.

Over the past two years, according to intelligence and military experts familiar with its operations, Dimona has taken on a new, equally secret role — as a critical testing ground in a joint American and Israeli effort to undermine Iran’s efforts to make a bomb of its own.

When the first Iranian nuclear device wipes out Tel Aviv, the NY Times will report it with a straight face.

They are certainly not patriots. They are even journalists. They are despicable human beings.

That's in the most civil manner I can manage...

Yeah, the NYT moans and groans about police shooting criminals, so the police go with TASERS and the NYT screams & hollers about that.

First the NYT screams about the US and Israel considering the military option of dealing with the Iranian bomb program. Now it looks like the US & Israel have used the “non-violent” (”Peace be upon him” /sarc). So what does the NYT do? Complain, divulge diplomatic and military secrets.

I guess the NYT wants a diplomatic stalemate concluded over caviar, canapes and champagne at a posh Geneva venue.

I do not believe that a computer virus has delayed the Iranians more than a month or two. It is silly propaganda.

Nothing in the NYT article is “complaining” about the cyberattack that I can see.

And this isn’t Wikileaks; just seems to be several enterprising reporters talking to who they can talk to and connecting the dots.

This isn't your run of the mill computer virus, as the article (which I suspect you didn't bother to read) or many other analyses of Stuxnet make clear. It's a complex and specific weapon designed to destroy equipment.

The centrifuges used to separate radioactive isotopes operate at a few hundred thousand revolutions per minute, and they are controlled by computers. They cost tens of thousands of dollars each, and thousands of them operating 24/7 take years to refine enough material to use as fuel or a bomb.

The virus doesn't just mess up the computer so it has to be restored. The virus causes the centrifuge to run too fast and explode.

A large percentage of the Iranian centrifuges self-destructed, and the remaining centrifuges were shut down before they could.

But believe what you want, since your beliefs obviously don't require facts.

The worm itself now appears to have included two major components. One was designed to send Iran’s nuclear centrifuges spinning wildly out of control. Another seems right out of the movies: The computer program also secretly recorded what normal operations at the nuclear plant looked like, then played those readings back to plant operators, like a pre-recorded security tape in a bank heist, so that it would appear that everything was operating normally while the centrifuges were actually tearing themselves apart.

God I love the Israelis.

Close analysis of the code has definitely shown it to not be the work of hackers.

Those who have done the analysis state its disciplined structure could only have originated in Academia / Military etc.

And this isn’t Wikileaks

They are indistinguishable from Wikileaks. If someone steals secrets and gives them to the NYT, does that give the NYT to right to use the secrets for personal gain at the expense of national security? It's completely unethical and anti-America.

The Idaho national laboratory played a big role in developing this munition. Unspoken is the huge number of Mormons in Idaho and in the intelligence community in general. NYT is likely trying to tip the balance to terrorists nuking conservative Mormons rather than leftist Jews in NYC, number one on the terrorist target wish list. The Jewish fascination with leftism in America is all about envy deflection. Kill the other guy, not me. How honorable.

Leftist weasels.

How much facts do you have that any of the centrifuges self destructed?

The bigger damage to the Iranians were the car bombs that killed one of their scientists and hurt another. Their families were also targeted and that sends a strong message to other Iranians that are in the program. Maybe, it will delay the inevitable a little more.

I hope you are all right and the damage really did occur. It is a feel good story, but did it really happen?

Having the New York Times back up the Iranian story that the Israelis and us were behind it, is treason. They really should be arrested and several executed.
