Republican U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison has announced that she will retire after her current term expires.

In a letter released Thursday, Hutchison said she will not run for re-election in 2012. Hutchison has said she might retire and then changed her mind several times in the last few years. In 2010, she challenged Gov. Rick Perry in the Republican primary for governor, but lost.

Hutchison has been in the Senate since 1993.

The GOP backroom boys will undoubtedly try to force another RINO on the electorate. Joe Strauss III (the “turd”) anyone? Or perhaps Brian McCall?

I’d like to see State Senator Dan Patrick run for this seat.

The TEA a bit too strong for the lady.

I'd really like to see Louie Gohmert standing up strong for Texas and true American values in the senate.

He's a Christian, former military, an Aggie, smart as a whip and I think has not a trace of RINO blood.

Louie Gohmert has a perfect 100% rating from the American Conservative Union where's he's listed as a Defender of Liberty.

And besides, liberals absolutely detest him. That alone is a pretty good recommendation.

Yesssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, if we can just get something other than a RINO in there, hopefully with an electable buddy who can replace John Corny when he comes up for election again.

“She sees the handwriting on the wall and has been found wanting. She knows she’ll lose. Good riddance.”

Like McCain lost to Hayworth? Like Fiorina lost to DeVore?

A more conservative candidate does NOT automatically defeat an incumbent moderate officeholder.

But with Hutchinson not seeking reelection, it should be easier for a more conservative candidate to win the nomination.

Good news, but how much damage will she do between now and then? She needs to step down now and let Perry appoint someone.

Rep. John Carter would be a good man. He’s my US Rep., hate to lose him but we’ve got more to run in Williamson county!
