Poor Illinois. It's taken over the mantle as the state that everyone thinks is the most screwed.
Faced with a monster budget gap, the state Senate just passed a monster 66% hike in the state income tax.
The news has governors or other states gleeful.
Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels said today that the tax hike was good for... Indiana
And during his State of the State address, New Jersey governor Chris Christie held up Illinois as a state that was going in the wrong direction.
Chicago readers, any plans to move?

I read that book a few years ago. How did she know?
Fork it over.
Your state needs money for the paradise. :)
Wish I could say I feel sorry for you people in Illinois.
Actually I don’t. :)
That way people will be able to sneak across the border and get food and supplies.
Missouri, especially the St Louis area should profit from this idiocy.
Me neither> I think states should be the laboratories for modeling national policy. HAHAHAHA!
I’ll bet Boeing got some protection from rising rates in its incentive package for moving to Chicago. If it didn’t, their attorneys will start ASAP figuring out how to unwind their deal.
I would like to invite every citizen of Illinois to come to Texas, EXCEPT the Chicago bunch! Keep your liberal, union-loving, gun-hating votes up there in Chicago where it is working out so well for ya!
The problem with inviting liberals to move into safer (aka, more conservative) areas, is that they bring their trashy, filthy liberal views with them and that area risks turmoil as the libs try to make their way, THE way.
All in favor of the Chicago Thug-ocracy should stay in Illinois. All those opposed? Get the heck out now! (before you need the government’s permission to change state of residency)
I wonder how big a hit this will mean to them and their employees.
Also, Springfield Armory and ArmaLite in Geneseo, Rock River Arms in Colona and Lewis Machine and Tool in Milan are probably looking at this too.
Why, I thought they'd be racing to get there so they can pay more taxes and be happier...what happened?
The ballots were fixed in Crook County by Pat Quinn's union thugs.
I read on another thread people are organizing to recall Pat Quinn. I hope to God we can recall him. He will make Blago look like Ronald Reagan!
And wherever they go, the Dims would send field auditors and collectors to the ends of the earth to extort every penny possible. Nevermind the costs of all that effort would be more than what would be brought in. Let the socialist states fail and be used as an example for posterity.
Around here they’re known as FIBs or FISHTABs. (Hint: I=Illinois and TAB=Towing a boat.) Go Pack!
RE: I would like to invite every citizen of Illinois to come to Texas, EXCEPT the Chicago bunch!
Now here’s a hospitable Lone Star Stater if I ever saw one... everytime there’s an article in FR mentioning the troubles of California and the other rust belts, I always read the obligatory .... don’t come to Texas post.
“Don’t come to Texas, it’s too hot, don’t come to Texas, it’s too dry, it’s too boring...”, etc. etc.
This is a refreshing change of pace.
Shame they didn’t pick St Louis after they bought up McDonnell Douglas. Have plenty of space there though....
LOL! In NJ the last Dim Gov. Corslime enacted an “exit tax”. He tripled the Realty Transfer Tax.
Illinois — the Land of Obummer.
I worked for Boeing. I’m thinking Chicago being a hub for a lot of things plus office space and all that. About 125 or so employees went. I remember what a big deal the Seattle Times made of it. “Boeing Leaving Seattle” blah blah, when for years all they and the unions did was lambaste Boeing for one thing or another. It was like the battered wife leaving the abusive husband and the guy didn’t know why.
It could be the beginning of lots of companies and people leaving the state. I read that they also are taxing or will tax Social Security payments to the elderly.
