Jared Lee Loughner, the 22-year-old Arizona man charged with killing six people and injuring 12 others, including U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords, clearly scared more than a few people.
Instructors at his college, as well as friends and neighbors, have said they expressed concerns about Loughner's behavior in the months before he opened fire at a gathering at a Tucson shopping mall on Saturday.

"While his behavior seemed to be disturbing, there is not any indication (he posed) a direct or imminent danger. One thing that will come up -- are mentally ill folks more violent because of mental illness and the answer is no."
Pima Community College said on its website that Loughner withdrew in October after being suspended, saying he had "five contacts" with campus police.
"A follow-up letter was sent to him October 7, 2010, indicating that if he intends to return to the College, he must resolve his Code of Conduct violations and obtain a mental health clearance indicating, in the opinion of a mental health professional, his presence at the College does not present a danger to himself or others," the statement reads.
It is not clear whether Loughner sought treatment, but several experts said many people his age go untreated for mental illness.

"Arizona has a broad civil commitment law to require treatment if it is needed; however, the law cannot work if an evaluation is never conducted or mental health services are not available."

Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik failed to protect the community.
Even the college saw this man as a threat.
AZ has involuntary commitment laws that with what the College police reported would have saved many lives.
Lots of crazy people running around. You just never know which ones will go off.
The sheriff admitted he knew of threats the suspect had made to others.
What more do they need to tell that a person is violent.
I heard that a walmart empolyee wouldnt sell him ammo the first time he tried that morning.. .
The Sheriff is needs to answer questions.
Ridiculous question.
Dumb idiots.
Yeah I suppose if everyone was locked up.
Dumb bastuds. Look people will commit crimes. That is why we have laws, prosecutors, prisons. Get over it. People shoot, bash, beat, run over, push and fight each other every day and have ever since Cain and Abel. Don’t be stupid.
God in Heaven, such stupid questions. Spare me. I can’t believe it.
I thought he also made the threat to kill police officers recently on a social networking site or Utube. This guy’s made so many crazy statements it’s hard to keep track of them all.
Could the shooting have been stopped? It was. Could it have been stopped sooner? If it was during a conservative political rally with more concealed carry enthusiasts in the crowd. It’d been over quick.
There are a few people to which that question makes sense. His parents are obvious candidates, perhaps a few others who knew.
Solves the NUT problem real quick-=
1. Deterrent
2. Mexican standoff or
3. NUT is OK Corral`d
If the sheriff had not shown his political agenda and somehow blamed “bigotry” and maligned Arizonans I would almost give him a pass. But considering his bad attitude I hope his lack of action here is at least investigated.
Perhaps Loughner needed to be “profiled,” horror or horrors.
BTTT.
Jerry Loughner’s father works in Child Protective Services -— did he ever try to find help for his obviously mentally ill son???
You know, I would bet his parents have been attempting to assist their son his entire sad life. And with idiot teachers being cruel, and the school system being inept and probably wanting to medicate him and the proper assistance being very difficult to obtain and our current society being hideous to white males in general, I bet it was a walk in the valley of the shadow of death. And now things have gotten worse. I just hope his parents know Christ. Do you suppose Hinkley’s parents knew? And if so, could actually have done anything? Do ou have a 22 year old son? Do you have any idea how powerful a driven 22 year old person is? If so, spill. Do tell. Let us in on your insight. Tell us about the times you have been awakened in the night by the calls and the drives you have made to address trouble in the night and the costs you have coughed up to attempt to address the issues....do tell.
Yes if others there had been armed and reacted in time many lives could have been saved.
Alright, I’m going to touch the 2nd amendment in its nono place, but...
If you make death threats against someone - especially a public official like a judge, congressperson, etc - the police should be able to place some sort of flag placed against you that would prevent you from purchasing a firearm for a set number of days. 180? After 3, 4, 5 threats... a few years.
That should keep firearms out of wacko hands without hurting anyone else. Even if an upstanding citizen were to get drunk and do/say something stupid... oh well, he can’t buy a gun for a few months. It’s not forever.
I thought the ACLU beat those laws back in the 80's then turned around and blamed Reagan for all of the "new" homeless on the streets??
Seriously, do we really want to go down the road of committing those we perceive as threats...like Limbaugh, Palin and Beck?
How do we define a "threat"?
He has lived with the “empowerment” teaching his whole life. I can’t imagine trying to raise a kid these days.
