I had a student like this in a class a couple of years ago. No matter how many times I complained to Admin, I was told that he was mentally ill, was a protected class, and that his therapist assured us he was "safe."

What a horrible position to be in. You and your students should not have to be concerned about your personal safety in the classroom. Perhaps concern over the tragedy in Arizona will lead to a change in policy at your school.

Malcoda had no business being in charge of kids in class since he acted in a cruel fashion to a kid who was suffering. He displayed no leadership skills whatsoever, just malicious indifference to one and siding with his students against him. Malacoda added to the kid’s problems and assisted in pushing him further into isolation. He should be embarrassed and ashamed and should never teach again.
