“Conservatives have shame.”

Good ending.

Technically, I’ve not heard that he was a diagnosed schizophrenic, but that is just a single mental illness out of many. However, no matter what his condition, it was likely exacerbated by having a documented alcohol overdose in ‘06. Brain damage rarely helps mental illness.

Yes, the remote diagnosis by the author of this piece, whom (I presume) is not a psychiatrist, made me a little uncomfortable. That said, though, the description that’s emerging from people who had contact with him certainly sounds like that of someone descending into disordered thought patterns. He’s of the right age, he’s been self-medicating with cannibis, reports of social withdrawal from friends and neighbors, and very obvious indications of disorganized thinking... all indications that fit the “template.”

Good point...and along those same lines; the man was delusional, paranoid, and had feelings of grandeur—those three things are the only components of schizophrenia that would lead a person to commit murder. If those three components are present, does it truly matter whether it was schizophrenia or some other disorder?

As this thing unfolds fetal alcohol syndrome is another condition that should be kept in mind.

I haven’t read anything about the course of FAS children over time. I’ll have to check into it. Same for the cocaine-addicted youngsters that came out of the crack epidemic.

A psychology prof I had years ago used to say, “Schizoprenics build castles in the sky; psychotics live in them.”

This guy’s rambling rantings and “waking dreams” are a good indication of his mental state.

But Loughner is not a fetus!

Along those same lines...could this be a case of pretraumatic stress disorder?

I agree.

The issue is about the Left’s exploitation of violence and the unseemly methods it uses to pin such things on the Right to which the Right stands against.

That’s very fair criticism. However, because of doctor-patient confidentiality, we’re going to have to rely on remote diagnosis—at least until the trial. But if only the whites of a man’s eyes are showing and he has to feel in front of him with a cane to make sure he doesn’t trip over anything, I’m confident diagnosing him as blind. Here’s a quote from the gunman: “Reading the second United States Constitution, I can’t trust the current government because of the ratifications: the government is implying mind control and brainwash on the people by controlling grammar.” The fellow also claimed he was about to issue his own currency.

Here’s something else to chew on....if this were truly a matter of politics and not psychosis, wouldn’t he do everything he could to make his politics clear and act sane (see Timothy McVeigh)? There was so much knee-jerk reaction....but when you truly take a second to think about this...a nut killed a famous person. That’s it. It can’t be anything else.

The killer’s state of mind is irrelevant to the larger point of political distortion the Left is attempting to leverage against the Right. The immediate and most important point is obviously the loss of life and injury.

Any individual that commits such mayhem is unarguably troubled, and we can proceed in the debate without any further concern about the validity of the killer’s motives. Given the assault against a sitting Congresswoman makes the issue definitively political - an unfortunate catalyst to existing confrontation that divides the Country.

The Right has taken a long time to recognize and understand the methods used by the Left to destroy the fabric of our Country. It is applying those same methods in full force today in order to capitalize on the tragedy in Tuscon. The irrational distortions, lies, false accusations, and intentional malice are devices the Left employs without thinking - it’s habitual, automatic, intrinsic. The Right is obligated to defend itself against this unrelenting machine of defamation.

My mistake....I should have used the word “shot” instead of “killed.”

Absolutely a nut, first and foremost.

Also a lib, which the DBM is of course utterly ignoring. In the long tradition of whack-job leftist assassins whitewashed by the leftist apologist media.
