Suspect in rampage called 'very disturbed' (has made death threats before)
Arizona Daily Sun ^ | January 9 2011 | Tim Steller

Posted on 01/09/2011 6:32:21 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

The man arrested for opening fire at a community meeting held by U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords Saturday -- killing six people and injuring 13 others -- disrupted classes at Pima Community College, tried to manipulate his dreams and posted rambling messages on the Internet.

The suspected shooter is Jared Lee Loughner, a 22-year-old who lives on the northwest side. He is mentally unstable and may have had an accomplice, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said Saturday evening.

A former classmate of Loughner at Pima, from which he was suspended Sept. 29 for code-of-conduct violations, said he was "obviously very disturbed."

"He disrupted class frequently with nonsensical outbursts," said Lynda Sorenson, who took a math class with Loughner last summer at Pima Community College's Northwest campus.

Dupnik said the suspected shooter has made death threats before and been contacted by law-enforcement officers. The threats weren't against Giffords, Dupnik said.

As a middle school student, Loughner was "kind of an outcast," said Shannin Macey, who said via e-mail she attended Tortolita and Mountain View with him. In high school, Loughner was in jazz band and played the saxophone, but he dropped out in junior year, said Tommy Marriotti, who was a high-school friend of Loughner.

At the time he dropped out, Loughner was having drug problems, Marriotti said, but he seemed to do well once he started taking classes at Pima.

Loughner attended Pima courses from summer 2005 until he withdrew in October after his suspension, the college said.

He tried to enlist in the Army in 2008 but was rejected, said First Sgt. Brian Homme, who oversees Army recruiting in Tucson. Loughner was sent to Phoenix to take a test and physical, but "he was found to be unqualified," Homme said.

Sorenson, Loughner's classmate at Pima, said he was asked to leave the pre-algebra class several times and eventually was barred from class.

Pima officials said in a news release that from February to September 2010, Loughner had five contacts with PCC police for classroom and library disruptions at Northwest and West campuses.

The Congresswoman’s husband is an Astronaut and is in fact in training (although probably not anymore) for the next Shuttle mission.

” I would like to know what the gunman’s note says. “

What happened with the reports from last night that he was heard shouting ‘something’ as he started shooting??

Saw that a couple of times last night, but no follow-up on it this morning - fog of war stuff??

Schizophrenia, paranoid delusions--have seen this is the children of acquaintances when their kids hit their early twenties. It's genetic.

But I am seriouly PO'd that they are screaming this schizo blame at Palin, conservs, etc.

I hope we're ready to go on the offense. We could start with that puffy old crook of a Sheriff, Clarence Dupnik.

article says he registered independent first time 2006, last voted 2008. I looked over Pima County Board of supervisors, other county offices, didn’t see same last name, but I hurried.

Well...that would seem to explain his quick launching of the (hate radio and bigots) lecture. It's a deflection from his own possible culpability. In fact, the entire libtard empire is doing the same, because they know now that it was one of their own, and need to do everything to see that this never becomes a popular fact in this event.

I think that you laid that out rather well.

The LIBMEDIA and Politicians immediately assumed it was some redneck white American conservative NRA-member Constitutionalist Freedom of Speech Tea Party Palin lover, and now they are in cover mode as the truth comes out.

It does seem to explain much of the 'concerted effort' that the Sheriff, the Media, and Politicians are making to assign the blame before gathering the facts.

Rather like their 'pass the bill, then we will read it' attitude about how Legislation is supposed to be done.

re: Giffords “is the first Jewish female elected to such a high position in the US government.)))

Um, Barbara Boxer, Feinstein? Not to mention all the other Jewish women in the House.

This is probably Holder blowing smoke. But it'll be interesting to see what comes of it.

Anybody here ever heard of "American Renaissance"?

Evil has now been "placed" in things--like guns--not in people, because, ya know, people are basically good beccause they were created--oops--they evolved that way. And who has the right to say what is "good" or "evil"--it's just a matter of opinion, right?

And the "crimes against humanity" which Hitler and Stalin committed were not motivated by anything Evil--just their own lack of "self esteem" developed during childhoods in "villages" that failed to care for them properly. And--of course--much too easy access to guns!

Really really bad--and big--guns!!!

Giffords “is the first Jewish female elected to such a high position in the US government. She was also opposite this group’s ideology when it came to immigration debate,” the note said.

This is, of course, incorrect.

First, Giffords, whose father is Jewish, is not technically Jewish. Giffords apparently decided to be Jewish about 10 years ago but did not convert.

Second, there have been a number of actually Jewish females elected to the House of Representatives, at least as far back as Florence Kahn of California in the 1920s.

Key. As in significant brain damage. Loss of rational and orderly thought processes. Onset of paranoia.

I've read some of Loughner's posts on a website.

The kind of posts that make you aware the poster is a few cans shy of a six-pack.

I found his mother’s name is some reports. She worked for the Park Service at one time.

If you pull up the address on Google you see a beat up old pick up truck in the front - but that may not be the address. I can’t get google to show anything but that home when looking at the mapping site - except it shows a different address in the mapping section.

I guess I don’t know how to use it.

“Wonder if JL was a fan of Comedy Central? I’d like to be able to blame Jon Stewart.”

His “cartoon” would make it appear that is a likely possibility:

The problem with people with mental illnesses is that they won’t follow through with taking their medications or attending therapies or outpatient treatments so their mental illnesses kick back in and major problems happen.

This man could have made threats against “people” but if it is not a specific individual or groups then the requirement to notify does not pertain. I think that anyone with a serious mental illness that makes threats against society in general should be reported and at least an alert is placed by their names.

Never heard of it — the New Age connections to the alleged killer are MUCH stronger, but the media LOVES New Age stuff.
