Christina Taylor Green, nine-year-old victim in today's Tucson shootings, once was an infant designated to be a "Face of Hope" by virtue of her birth on September 11, 2001. She was one of the children born on 9/11 to be featured in the book by Christine Pisera Naman which was dedicated to all the babies born on the day the World Trade Towers in New York City were taken down in an act of terrorism.
Ironically, today her life ended in violence, as she fell under the attack of a gunman at a political function at a supermarket.
A neighbor was going to the Giffords event today, the Arizona Republic reports, and invited Christina along simply because she thought she would enjoy it, according to Christina's uncle, Greg Segalini. Christina was newly elected to the student council at her school.
The event, an opportunity for constituents to meet Giffords and discuss any concerns they had related to the federal government, was an outdoor family friendly event.
A talented girl, Christina Green participated in many activities, ranging from ballet to baseball.
"How do you prepare for something like this? My little niece got killed--took one on the chest and she is dead," Segalini reportedly said outside the girl's house.
The public yields a stunned assent.
"She was born on 9-11 and died today? That's the most tragic thing I've ever heard," a Facebook comment asserts.
Christina's page in Faces of Hope reads: I hope you know all the words to the Star Spangled Banner and sing it with your hand over your heart. I hope you jump in rain puddles (p. 42).
Some things are just a total punch in the gut. I am stunned and speechless.
A prayer for the soul of this lovely child, whose promising life was cut short far too soon.
The fact that the left gleefully seeks to make political points over the murder of a child shows to what level they have sunk. They are beyond despicable.
I think we are all saddened by this senseless killing and attempted assassination of a Congresswoman - Democrat, Republican, it makes no difference - this is not something we can tolerate! That said, I agree with you that it is despicable how some on the left are using this as an opportunity to smear people they disagree with politically. Very sad and very disgusting!
WOW
I just dont even know what to think of that.

So sad, but she’s in a much better place than AZ. I hope her family believes that.
I hope that the leftist lunatic nutcase doesn’t make it to trial.
That girl looks a lot older than 9...
Born innocently on a day of evil. Died innocently on a day of evil. God is telling us something.
Her life of course would be no less meaningful if she were a day younger, but it’s difficult to look past the symbolism of the gift of her birth to her family and the Country on one of its darkest days in history.
My greatest shock today was learning specifically of Christina’s death - the innocent child who probably knew little of the evil that stalks the most vulnerable among us. The murder of this beautiful 9-11 baby is deeply upsetting.
Except that today’s date is the 8th...not Jan 9
Prayers for the family. My mind cannot even fathom what they are going through. To lose a child brutally by the hands of another... my mind cannot go there. May the Lord embrace this precious little girl and give comfort to her family and friends. Amen
1/8/11 add 8 + 1 = 9 then the year, ‘11 9/11
true..died one day before that numbered sequence.
And what is the deal with that picture of the Punk rock band? Is that girl with the tattoos supposed to be Christina?
Anyone know how I can get into the killers jail cell? I only need a couple minutes to talk to him.
Christina-Taylor Green, the 9-year-old who was shot at the event and later died at a hospital, had just received her first Holy Communion at St. Odilias Catholic Church on Tucsons northwest wide, Catholic Diocese of Tucson officials said.
Let the children come to me, Jesus said (Matthew 19:14). Christina is with Him, Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson Bishop Gerald F.Kicanas wrote in a letter to parishioners sent from Jordan, where he is attending a bishops meeting.
Christina-Taylor had gone to the event with a neighbor to meet Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, her uncle told KTAR in Phoenix.
