(Reuters) - The House of Representatives will postpone next week's vote to repeal President Barack Obama's healthcare reform legislation due to the shooting of Democratic Representative Gabrielle Giffords, House Republican Leader Eric Cantor said on Saturday.

"All legislation currently scheduled to be considered by the House of Representatives next week is being postponed so that we can take whatever actions may be necessary in light of today's tragedy," Cantor said in a prepared statement.

Giffords had received threats for her support of the healthcare reform bill and her office in Tucson was vandalized ...

I don’t get shutting down the House for a week. Can’t they lower a flag and have a moment of silence instead?

SO all the left has to do is off a Congressperson a week and nothing gets done?

Cantor probably wants to party some with the money his wife got out of the tarp.

The JACKASS party will turn this incident into another Wellstone moment, yet some here would turn a blind eye to their turning every tradegy into a political opportunity.

Before trying to tell us that politics weren’t involved, they should answer this question: how many DUmocrats uttered “Never let a good crisis go to waste” recently???

Exactly my thinking. How many times is there 100% attending and voting in either house?

It's a bad precedent to set (imho).

Ugh.... I just don’t get it. Is it a sad time? Maybe so. But the woman isn’t dead. She has come out of anesthesia. Why put everything on hold for a week over 1 congresswoman out of 435 Congresscritters?

Cantor freaked out back in October and attacked a fellow Republican in Ohio for merely being a WWII war re-enactor who wore a Nazi uniform playing a role, a man with no history otherwise to indicate anything untoward. Cantor’s pretty skittish.

Is it just him, or is there some sort of intelligence indicating that this sort of thing is going to escalate? I think Cantor’s just skittish, myself.

Another big snowstorm heading up the east coast from Carolina again, turning into a noreaster. We’re forecast for a foot here in NC on Monday night. That might be part of it, too.

Cancelling all legislative activity for a week due to a colleague being wounded in a shooting does not hold up to scrutiny. There’s more to it, one way or the other, whether they’re afraid of such attempts on themselves or what.

This is an overreaction. But typical of Cantor. Giving the Left time to regroup is just DUMB. Of course they’ll take advantage of it.

Stupid morons. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Get to work. This is ridiculous. They’re acting like she’s the president or was killed. She isn’t and she wasn’t.

I agree. Something else is afoot.

Congress critters have died and congress did not recess. this woman isn’t even dead.

I hate the Repubs. I really do.

Interesting. I hadn’t thought about any of that. The first thing thing that came to mind was how quickly Cantor cancelled but didn’t think about reasons except that it was odd. You have people ‘missing’ votes all the time and it doesn’t shut down Congress...

It either involves the reasons you pointed out or they don’t want to vote on the damn repeal (which was the first thing that popped into my mind) and this was a convenient out. I’m not saying deference shouldn’t be made toward Giffords but shutting down business? Come on...

Giffords voted against Pelosi. Maybe they need her vote to go against Obamacare and will wait until she is better. That lowlife that shot the Congresswoman did so, IMO, because she was too conservative for his Commie taste.

This is VERY odd.

We understand the concern, but the Country is melting down and they take a week off? How many other Americans could have that option?

Pray for the Gifford Victims

It is absolutely an over-reaction.

Remember the night when the deathcare was being voted on; Harry Reid's wife was in a car accident and broke her neck. Did Reid miss that vote? Hell no. If I recall he busted his tail to get back to the floor.

The marxists never cancel their agenda for any reason...
