Liberals blast Palin and 'rhetoric' following AZ shooting
Washington Times Water Cooler Blog ^ | 1/8/11 | Kerry Picket

Did liberals like Congressman Raul Grijalva, Arizona Democrat, Markos, Moulitsas, and Andrew Sullivan speak too soon for the sake of hoping that the Tucson shooter could have had a tea party or a right of center affiliation? From all of their statements today, both said and written, it sure seems like it.

"It is hard because you're in the middle of shock but at the same time you have to as members of Congress, our speaker, our leadership has to understand that the tone and tenor of what we say as elected officials and how we debate, and how that discourse happens has to contribute to a place where it is civil it is human and it is protective of each other," said Congressman Grijalva.

Mr. Grijalva made these remarks during a CNN interview at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, when conficting reports about fellow Arizona Democrat Rep. Gabriel Giffords were being broadcasted. The Arizona Congressman was brought on to discuss the political ramifications of the shooting of not only Ms. Giffords but also more than a dozen others (at least 5 of whom have died).

"There is a lesson to be learned, and it's a horrible lesson, and it is that people listen to us. We need to set the example. That we can disagree in a way that is not mean spirited, hateful and so full of anger that people feel that they have some sort of permission to treat their elected officials as fodder. I don't think that's the way it should be. So, the lesson to be learned is that what we say matters and how we say it matters, and how act it absolutely matters."

What we know:

1. Reports now state the shooter was an atheist whose FAVORITE books are Mein Kopf, The Communist Manifesto, and We The Living. He also posted on his youtube page that his favorite video was of an American flag burning.

2. The shooter is not even close to being a conservative, tea partier or Republican. In fact - you could easily make the case he is a hard core leftist.

3. The shooter worked for the congresswomen for re-election.

4. Looks like he was mad that the congresswomen voted against Pelosi as the House Speaker.

The Left has NO proof the Giffords’ shooting was of a political nature. That hasn’t stopped them from smearing conservatives and throwing mud to see what sticks. There is just no decency in these folks. Everything is political warfare for them, no matter how ridiculous or far-fetched the association might be.

Have 3 and 4 been confirmed? I’ve seen the “dead to me” Kos post, but haven’t come across confirmation that it was written by the shooter.

You just had to know that La Raza fatboy, Raul Grijalva wouldn’t waste any time exploiting this tragedy. It’s what America-hating, commie pigs like Grijalva do.

A lot of liberals always shoot first and ask questions later...if they even ask. And never try eliciting anything like an apology as they´re on to tearing down their next urgency.

I always try to apologize when I´ve been wrong, as is frequently the case, even though it´s often hard. But it´s just what they do, as a matter of course.

Apologies in advance for the rant....

There’s more evidence that he’s a hardcore Democrat lefty. Wonder if Pelosi, Reid, or Obama or anyone on their staff gave him marching orders?

This mayor of Tucson is coming across as a freakin’ idiot. He may be too close to the killed and injured, in which case he should not have conducted this presser. If I were from Tucson, I’d be embarrassed that he represents my town.

#3 and #4 were written by someone probably older than 22, as it refers to elections 8 yr ago.

What was the shooter’s party registration, if any? Should be easy to check.

Yeah, ‘targeting’ someone for defeat in an election is EXACTLY like targeting them to be murdered. How childish,,, and how sick to even think of political spin, when she’s laying there fighting for her life.

This deranged, contemptible act perpetrated by a fellow leftist has signaled the launching of another all out nasty hate-fest attack on Sarah Palin, the Tea Party and FreeRepublic loony left. Check out the lazy, delusional loser, knuckle-dragging morons at Democrat Underground.

You can add Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dubnik to this list. He’s a long term Democrat (30 years as sheriff) and went out of his way three or four times in the press conference tonight to rant about “those who inflame” in the media and clearly meant conservative talk show hosts, Fox News, etc.

In case you think you’ve heard from this guy before, you’re right:

Dupnik calls the law signed by governor Jan brewer last week a ‘national embarrassment.’

“I think the law, as I have said, is unwise, it’s stupid, and it’s racist,” says Dupnik.

The Pima County Sheriff’s reaction was completely over the top. He went on and on an on about how the “vitriol” in the public discourse was responsible for this tragedy because it caused an “unstable” individual to come unhinged (insanity defense much?) He said Arizona is the most “bigoted” state in the country. He also mentioned that he has attended “many” such events with Giffords.

The sheriff is nothing short of despicable.

Any respectable law enforcement official, dating back to Joe Friday, would stick with "just the facts" at a press conference regarding something of this magnitude.

To make a speech essentially blaming talk radio and the "bigotry" of his own constituents is not only unnecessary, but reprehensible.

I trust the voters of his county will remember this stellar moment at the next election.

Prayers for the congresswoman and all victims of this horrific incident.

Clarence Dubnik is not paid by AZ taxpayers to offer his misinformed opinion while engaged in the performance of his official duties. He is too personally involved to be a LE spokesman.

Congressman Raul Grijalva

Ok. That's the guy I heard generally implicating the tea party just prior to Linda Lopez (state rep). I couldn't remember who it was, but I remember CNN breaking to local coverage and the local news was interviewing Grijalva who was blaming the angry rhetoric and so forth.

As soon as I heard Grijalva, I thought "here come the tea party attacks." Within 10 minutes, Lopez was talking about the mean attacks from Giffords' "tea party endorsed" opponent.

There is a blood libel taking place against conservatives because of this horrible incident, even though it appears the shooter had decidedly left-of-center motivation.

Attempts, such as that made by the county sheriff which have been gleefully picked up by a biased national press itching to score political points, are disgusting and must be resisted with all the energy thinking, decent people can muster -- at the appropriate time.

Liberals haven't even waited until the funerals before beginning their assaults.

They own the press. They generally don't need to be right and aren't forced to account for their false charges. The MSM is eager to help them get their talking points out there.

I don't even think they care if they're wrong. As long as their accusation is entered into the conversation there are enough people too ignorant or uncaring to follow up.
