Rep Giffords shot at town hall in Tucson (Sen. Lautenberg D-NJ) blames politics)
Washington Times ^ | January 8, 2011

A Pima County Sheriff's spokesman said the suspect was 22 years old and had one prior minor run-in with the law as an adult. The spokesman said they are investigating whether someone else was involved.

Ms. Giffords' colleagues condemned the attack, with new House Speaker John A. Boehner saying "an attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve."

"Acts and threats of violence against public officials have no place in our society," Mr. Boehner said in a statement Saturday afternoon. "Our prayers are with Congresswoman Giffords, her staff, all who were injured, and their families. This is a sad day for our country."

Several lawmakers laid blame for the incident at the feet of increasingly harsh political debate.

"Rep. Giffords was innocently pursuing her interest in serving the public when she was shot in this maniacal act," said Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg, New Jersey Democrat. "America must not tolerate violence or inflammatory rhetoric that incites political violence."

Her district covers the vast expanse of the southeastern corner of Arizona, and is home to several major military bases. It also includes a large stretch of the U.S.-Mexico border and some of the most active smuggling routes in the country.

Wow. What a revelation. He is a complete braintrust. WOW.

I was thinking, since is was s democrat gathering, you could be fairly sure there wouldn't be any weapons carried by the people in the gathering. Had it been Republicans, he would likely have been dropped before he could have gotten a forth shot off.

UPDATE: Fox 11 News of AZ reported via Twitter that Rep. Giffords woke up from anesthesia, spoke to people in the room, and recognized her husband, according to a family friend.

hehe

Her mother is described as Methodist or Christian Scientist. She “decided” at some point around 2001 she was Jewish and apparently attends a Reform “temple”, where Rabbi Stephanie is her “spiritual mentor”.

According to hecht's post # 16, the congresswoman is not Jewish, since her mother isn't. Reminds me of Barry Goldwater, also from Arizona: Jewish father, gentile mother, not Jewish. Also Goldwater's joke about the possibility that they'll let him play nine hole of golf at the (exclusive) country club.

Ugh. Your comment kind of sounds like you think the victims deserved it. I’m sure you didn’t mean that, though.

Lautenberg, the Socialist whose open border and pro-Islam stances cost 100,000 lives is bitching about his own kind, the Commies.

"America must not tolerate violence or inflammatory rhetoric that incites political violence."

So along with being against the Second Amendment, Frank wants to go after the First Amendment as well? Further, it is HIS side of the political spectrum inciting all of the violence... He might wanna ponder that a bit first.

I have to admire the cravenness of the rats. One of their own is attacked and they are trying to figure out how to turn it to their political advantage. Look for the Wellstone funeral on crack if the Congresswoman passes away.

Too bad for them this guy is apparently a leftist psycho (with heavy emphasis on the “psycho” part). He lists Mein Kampf and the Communist manifesto among his favorite books. Along with “Animal Farm” and “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest”. You can’t make this stuff up.

RIP to the dead. Why was a federal judge there?

BINGO we have a winner. I’m getting torn apart here for asserting that he’s more psycho than liberal. Glad to see someone else post the same.

Well if bad grammar is one of his top political issues.....

His ‘videos’ are nonsensical. “Inform literate dreamers about a new currency”.

One of their own ['Rats] is attacked and they are trying to figure out how to turn it to their political advantage.

I heard the Pima County sheriff - a 'Rat, no doubt - at a press conference yesterday insinuating that talk radio (the code phrase for Rush Limbaugh et al) was a possible precipitating influence for the gunman to do his crime. Similar to Clinton after Oklahoma City.

Too bad for them that this guy is a leftist psycho.

Well, the MSM, as you can predict, is trying to spin him into a "right winger." They are emphasizing his views favoring sound money and the gold standard, and objecting to illiteracy in English (which the left portrays as racist against Hispanics).

Why was a federal judge there?

You touch on an important point: that the judicial branch is too cozy with the legislative and/or executive. That kind of coziness often influences decisions from the bench in favor of government and against non-government parties in cases. In this instance, the MSM spin is that the judge was lobbying for a new courthouse in Arizona which led him to friendships with Giffords and other Arizona congressmen.

You’re so right about the Sheriff and others. It’s amazing that the DemocRATS are talking about civility in politics, since they ran most of the negative ads last year.

Absolutely, I didn't mean any such thing. In fact, I am not sure how you could read that into my post.

=> (implying) He is so far to the left that he is equated to the right wing. That is their intent.

Why was a federal judge there?

Leaving aside why he was there -- it really might have been just to go shopping, I don't know -- the judge was a Bush 41 appointee, and I as understand, was an apolitical, moderate-conservative sort that the Tea Party Movement supports.

OTOH, they are the type that Communist Manifesto readers want to get rid of.
