Actually America collected tens of thousands of bats and fitted them with tiny incendiary charges and air dropped them over Tokyo in WWII. The plan was that they would fly around Tokyo at night and roost when the sun came up under building roofs. Then timers would go off and the resulting fires would burn down Tokyo.
The flaw in the plan was that it was too cold at 30,000 feet and the bats went into hybernation and just smashed to the ground like little brown tennis balls. Most of the timers were destroyed on impact.

The story I heard about the incendiary bomb strapped bats in WWII was that they were just getting ready to use them against the Japanese, but word came down the line that we had just developed and tested a much more powerful weapon. The project was aborted and the big bombs were used instead to end the war.
