Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann is considering running for the Republican nomination for president in 2012, ABC News reported Wednesday.
The third-term lawmaker, who formed the Tea Party Caucus last year, is making her third trip to Iowa in eight months. She will seek advice from local party leaders, as well as speak at a Jan. 21 fundraiser for Iowans for Tax Relief political action committee.
Should she run, Bachmann would join a field of candidates that could include four former governors Mike Huckabee (Ark.), Sarah Palin (Alaska), Tim Pawlenty (Minn.) and Mitt Romney (Mass.) as well as Sen. John Thune (S.D.), Rep. Mike Pence (Ind.) and former Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.), all of whom are rumored to be weighing bids.

I love Michele Bachmann, but it's been since the 19th century that a member of the House of Representatives was elected president: the House is a lousy springboard to that office. It would be a crying shame if she gave up her House seat to compete in the presidential primaries, and got nowhere there. In that very probable case we'd lose her voice in government altogether, and I trust she's considering that.

She’ll run simultaneously, like most of these folks do. Ron Paul is still wasting space in the House, ain’t he?

There's a difference, though. Ron Paul has a safe Republican seat, while Bachmann's district is competitive. A quixotic run for president could cost her, as it did Bob Dornan in 1996, in his Orange County district that leaned Republican, but not overwhelmingly so. You'll recall he lost his seat to Loretta Sanchez in the election--even though Bob Dole carried the district against Clinton. Despite the possibility of of ilegal alien voting fraud there, it's still a precedent that recommends caution. We need not to lose the voice of this great congresswoman altogether.

Who are you fooling? Whose support are you soliciting? Do you intend to build coalitions on behalf of your candidate with this sort of gratuitous attack? Is your strategy to kill your friends?
