The Corner Obama: Not Always a Fan of Upping Debt Ceiling January 3, 2011 12:50 P.M. By Katrina Trinko
While President Obamas economic advisor Austin Goolsbee argued Sunday that a refusal by the Senate to increase the governments debt ceiling (currently $14.3 trillion) would be catastrophic and a sign of insanity, thats not the position the president has held in the past.
Here are Obamas thoughts on the debt limit in 2006, when he voted against increasing the ceiling:
The fact that we are here today to debate raising Americas debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government cant pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Governments reckless fiscal policies. Increasing Americas debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.
In 2007 and in 2008, when the Senate voted to increase the limit by $850 billion and $800 billion respectively, Obama did not bother to vote. (He did vote for TARP, which increased the debt limit by $700 billion.)
Sen. Jim DeMint (R., S.C.) told Human Events in an interview released today that the decision about the debt ceiling needs to be a big showdown in the Senate.
We are going to cut [spending] necessary to stay within the current levels, which is over $14 trillion, said DeMint.
We upped our debt ceiling. Up yours.
SnakeDoc
He looks busted in this.
Standards are for the other guy, silly.
Surprised he voted at all.
Obama did not bother to vote.
That's more like it.
When raising the debt celiing plays into his Cloward and Piven Stategy, he will back it 1000%. In 2006 they were against the Bush administration, now they are in power and different rules apply.
GOP needs to hammer obama with this.
“The fact that we are here today to debate raising Americas debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government cant pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Governments reckless fiscal policies. Please, please, please someone give the exact same speech, word for word!
One of th GOP mebers need to read that into the record when they debate this and credit it to Obama.
Ha ha ha- what a joke.
Yup.
Kind of a game really especially since many Republicans have already said they would sign it after they have some chats on the economy.
What about the things that they keep off the budget? If they can leave $6.3 Trillion in GSE (Fannie/Freddie) debt out of it makes me wonder what else we owe that isn’t in the budget.
Obama’s Budget Has One Small, Missing Piece.... For $6.3 Trillion Dollars

I hope this goe viral.
So, look for leftists to attempt to assiduously ignore it, and once that fails, watch them call Katrina a racist.
Those Democrats Commies are so predictable...
I hope there is a video of this.
That was for Bush, this is for DumBO.
Hilarious.
“Not Always a FAN?” What a stupid title.
How about ‘Obama Talks Out of Both Sides of His Mouth & Is a Lying POS’?
