John Parsons Wheeler 3d, a Vietnam veteran officer who served in three GOP Presidential administrations, and who chaired the committee that raised funds from businesses, agencies and prominent Americans to get the Vietnam Veterans Memorial built on the Washington Mall, was found dead in a landfill a few miles from his New Castle Delaware home this weekend.

“It is sad but ever so obvious. In the olden days mobs were not so kind. Fish bait was the norm.”

Or cement at a new construction site.

Here’s a thread that Gondring posted yesterday about the same subject. Gondring found a lot of interesting information to add to what’s on this thread. I’m too lazy to collect each of his links and add them, but maybe someone else is more industrious.

He was in direct conflict with the radical left on a few issues. He was fighting to return ROTC to college campuses.

<><><<><

Seems that conflict was at best indirect.

His direct conflict appears to have been with the neighbor across the street over a view of the river.

Lol! I didn’t know landfiils were reserved for a certain class of corpses. I wouldn’t want that attorney representing me.

Interesting. I am going to ‘hit the books’ after I get Christmas packed up and returned to the basement. (except for the tree which goes to mulch) .

Not saying she is involved, just found it interesting she didn’t report him missing.

http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=news/crime&id=7876386

Lt. Mark Farrall tells Action News, “At the landfill there was a spotter who was watching the garbage as it was dumped to make sure there wasn’t any hazardous material or anything that shouldn’t be in the dump. He noticed the body at that time and they immediately contacted the Wilmington Police Department.”

Wheeler lived part time in a house in New Castle. He also had home in Washington DC as well as New York City where Wheeler’s wife runs a silk import business.

Last Tuesday Wheeler was supposed to take the train from Washington to Wilmington. What happened after that remains a mystery. His body was found three days later.

Police say his wife was traveling at the time and never reported him missing. Neighbors say he was well known in New Castle for an ongoing feud with the owner of a home under construction across the street from his Delaware home. The new construction partially blocks Wheeler’s view of the park and Delaware River.

Wheeler’s widow, Katherine Klyce, owns a handwoven Cambodian silk company. Her business website lists their New Castle home and an address in New York City.

Katherine Klyce

Katherine Klyce founded Katherine Klyce International, LLC, in 2004 to produce Takeo Textiles. She has traveled extensively in search of fabrics and art that is distinctive, rare, of the highest taste, and rich with history and individuals’ stories and provenance.

She has explored the whole of Namibia, boated up the Mekong River, and lived in a tree house in Ecuador’s rainforest. She often takes her two daughters with her on these trips, as well as her guitar (she is a skilled classical guitarist).

Her journeys began when Katherine spent 6 months traveling around the world on her own at the age of 22, at a time when other young women’s foreign travel was limited to supervised bus tours of European capitals, and the only means of communication with home was a very slow postal service.

It was on this trip that she first visited Cambodia and developed a love for the arts, culture, and people of Southeast Asia. She did not return to the region again until 1993, this time as the Project Officer setting up a publishing program in Viet Nam for the Obor Foundation. In 1998 she finally came back to Cambodia as an Election Observer for the second United Nations-sponsored election of Cambodia’s new democratic government.

In addition to over 10 years of work experience and travel in Indochina, Katherine has studied home textiles at Manhattan’s Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).

She created KKI to bring Cambodia’s unique hand-woven silk to the US market while furthering business opportunities for her Cambodian friends. Her products are made from gorgeous fabrics—many of them colored with 100 percent natural dyes—sewn into uniquely designed pillows, throws, placemats, and wall hangings. By combining ancient techniques with modern design and sensibilities, these products make extraordinary decorative additions to any home.

Go to post 75. Once you zoom in and click on “street view,” move your mouse across the street to the park. Apparently, that’s where they’re building.

I think some people buy or build their house assuming there won’t be any changes to the area. I have seen properties sold that “back up to woods” only to have houses built once the “woods” are cleared.

Thanks, petitfour. I found some more stuff this morning, but I haven't had time to post it. Some of it has been posted on this thread, but I think there's some interesting stuff missing (though I haven't checked this thread in depth).

He had been deep in insider-trading investigations. He wrote Touched by Fire. Etc.

BTW, for those who don't know, Cherry Island is a very well-run landfill.
