Seniors should be older before the receive Social Security and wealthy Americans should receive less benefits across the board, says Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.
He made the argument in an interview on Sunday's Meet the Press, but it's a position Graham has advocated for on the stump in South Carolina, including a 2009 stop at The Citadel with Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
"What I'm going to do is challenge this country to make some hard decisions," Graham said at the time, telling the crowd of cadets, Tea Partiers, and Graham supporters that they shouldn't give Congress a pass on the tough stuff.

whatever one has paid into SS, there should be some payout.....we pay taxes in this country and their supposed to mean something...
That's the BIG LIE and only stupid people believed it.
Once the government took that money (essentially at the point of a gun) it was the governments to do with as they pleased.
Sucks, but that's the way it is.
I concur completely. Unfortunately, ALL Americans have a vested interest in some Government goody and will scream if their "ox is gored." IMHO, there are an insufficient number of elected officials who have the intestinal fortitude to withstand the screams.
My Dad worked and paid a lot into the system. My Mom didn't work, and raised us kids instead. When my Dad died suddenly at age 56, my Mom had to take a minimum wage job because had basically no work experience. What would you have suggested happen to my Dad's SS payments that now go to my Mom, instead of actually benifitting the woman who raised his kids instead of fulfilling her own career aspirations?
Graham is typical of the RINO/demrat elected elite. Instead of encouraging people to achieve “rich” status, it’s only focus is on punishing achievers.
These aare really some seriously confused and delusionally dangerous dudes (not meant to be gender specific).

Great idea, Graham ... let’s start with those in Washington, D.C.
I support the elimination of SS, starting today.
However, I'll settle for reducing expenditures and taking on the rest later.
Another Marxist looking for a handout eh?
No. Go back and reread the entire post instead of idiotically pulling the comment out of context.
Unbelievable.
You first, Gramnesty! Let’s put you out of a job and let
you fend for yourself in the REAL world for a change!

Good.
Now lets reduce expenditures across the board and not just for some.
“I disagree on your logic about the annuity....most people....not me,lol....would have been able to invest in property or the stock market IF they had access to the portion of their paycheck sent to SS....thus, that $10,000 might have turned into $200,000....”
Well Cherry that’s a big IF since people were not allowed to do that they were forced by law to do otherwise so coulda shoulda woulda doesn’t really apply.
Meyer I read all of your thoughts on this and I completely agree you did an excellent job explaining it.
OK. Let's start with a 25% across the board cut tomorrow for both SS and Medicare...the add 5% cuts every year for the next five years.
So, if someone works their tail off at a well-paying job all their life, they're not allowed to enjoy the fruits of their labor? After all, they've paid the most into the system. Let me give you the flip side. My MIL never worked a day in her life. My FIL never made over $14K a year. After he passed in 1994, his SS benefits went to her. She got $1550 a month for the rest of her life. She lived another 15 years. Are you OK with your kids paying for that? According to you, I guess that's ok, just as long as somebody doesn't have a Winnebago. You're just another class warfare socialist.
Well I think we should cut benefits to wealthy senators and congressmen FIRST!
I have zero interest in getting into the flame war that has erupted on this topic but as you are a supporter of using Means Testing FIRST to address the Country overspending dysfunctionality let me ask 2 questions, and seriously please don’t just flame away because I am not interested in that type of discussion.
1 - why should the GOP use this approach FIRST? Would this NOT be just the way the Pelosi / 0bama Socialists would WANT this to be addressed? I mean, why not first go thru every gluttonous spending account or program initially, forcing cuts of that stuff FIRST?
2 - if we were to acquiesce to the hard Left and officially remake this as a Federal Welfare Program why wouldn’t you demand that the Left admit that this was always a Socialist Program as a prerequisite because they KNEW it was going to implode eventually (this would have legs to the 0bama Care debate, right?) AND for the love of God ALSO demand that we can now STOP paying into this SS disaster and allow those of us who will no longer be eligible to opt out and put “our so-called” retirement funds into commercial investments in lieu of this ponzi scheme?
I apologize in advance if you are feeling attacked, that is NOT what I am intending - I sometimes do not have the greatest “bed side manner” and I am being serious.
Yup. You could really send people over the edge if you started to talk the tax policy that needs to go hand in hand with the cuts but I don’t think many people could take that!
SS used to BE a voluntary system, I don’t remember when the “opt-out” was ended, but IMO they ought to restore it.
