Holder Urges GOP Oversight To Focus On "Substance," Not "Politically Attractive" Things

Holder Urges GOP Oversight To Focus On "Substance," Not "Politically Attractive" Things; Incoming Chairman Vows "Fair" Oversight

As House Republicans weigh how to spend their time after taking power of the oversight committees in January, Attorney General Eric Holder on Wednesday urged the committee overseeing his department to "focus on things that are not going to be politically attractive but will be of substance."

Before November's mid-term elections, Republicans on Capitol Hill promised to investigate allegations by two attorneys -- one currently with the Justice Department -- that the department's Civil Rights Division is "hostile" toward "race-neutral enforcement" of voting rights laws. But the Justice Department has repeatedly denied such allegations, and congressional hearings on the matter are not a sure thing, with the House Judiciary Committee yet to place such a hearing on its calendar, according to one committee staffer.

"I am committed to fair and reasonable oversight of the Justice Department and to ensuring openness and transparency of our federal law enforcement agencies," incoming committee chairman Lamar Smith, R-Tex., said in a statement.

But, Smith said, the allegations against the Justice Department are "troubling," and, "We need to make sure that our laws are being equally enforced."

Priority #1: Perp walk Holder right into Supermax.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

Should Texans traveling near Issa drop by with a note and vice-versa for those traveling to Austin?

Mail him a letter. Heavy bond, in longhand. The staff reads those (not e-mails). If there are enough of them, during some firestorm, the staff will weigh them, pro vs. con.

That, and beating some RiNO's butt with long-distance contributions to a conservative or Tea Party challenger. Boehner reads those returns. Notice that it was knocking down Mike Castle in Delaware and Sen. Bennett of Utah that got the Tea Party their real notoriety.

Taking out one of the Maine twins should be Job One for the 2012 primaries (don't know which one's up, but she's the one to retire).

The other RiNO's won't let the Tea Party guys toss another RiNO from the caucus, so it's up to the People to beat their butts.

Does Boehner have Issa hogtied too?

I don't think so, but he might try. Issa has a backbone, though, according to California people who know him -- the Tea Party Express isn't really Tea Party folks, but they're the California conservatives who took down Gray Davis. They were hoping to get Tom McClintock elected goobernor, but the Callyfoahnyuh RiNO's pulled an Eisenhower on them, by recruiting Ahnuld to run as "their" guy, trumping the "California Deserves Better" bunch, which is what they were calling themselves back then .....

The RiNO's out there have all the money and they stomp on the McClintock-Issa enthusiasts regularly, but my point was to say that the McClintock supporters are pretty conservative people and well-experienced (some with Prop 8 experience, too, and a couple of old Reaganauts on their board).

At first he was all great white shark, then he kinda sat down and said ‘there will be no bloodbath’......

Hmmmm. My guess: Bambi is blackmailing him. (It's what Bambi does, among other things.)

If you study the media time line the GOP are not playing games.

The MSM cannot get away with they’re usual garbage. If enough call to war of poor, poor Obama articles and ratcheting up the ole left vs. thebadwolfright don’t silence the GOP they will pull out the big ole race card. If that does not work they will attack in full force saying it is a witch hunt like poor slick willy got and STILL be ignored. Old Alinsky tactics are stale and quite old.

The question is will the GOP march on in the rule of law?

And now the MSM are in full panic...

We’ll see what happens when Congress reconvenes.... what the intent is.

The Tea Party is no flash-in-the-pan like the last-minute community organizin’ was for 0 in ‘08. Nobody’s going back to sleep here.

So sorry but I don’t take my cue from links about “having lunch together”. I know what I know and someone lunching together means diddley. What was said at the lunch? A lunch does not have to mean kissy-face and sweetness and light. It can take on whatever tone and tenor you want.

Lamar Smith has already proven a tough, tenacious questioner of all things Justice Dept. and now he will head the committee instead of Conyers.
A good day...
