The two have never met, but Sarah Palins star power hasnt gone unnoticed by Sen. Jim DeMint.
Weve never spoken, but she left me a nice message, and I believe shes done more for the Republican Party than anyone since Ronald Reagan, DeMint said.
In a Politico article published Wednesday, DeMint and other senators are quoted talking about 2012 election candidate and courting possibilities. Mitt Romney is near the top of [DeMint's] list as well.
DeMint is not the first political official to draw connections between Palin and the 40th president. Earlier this year, Arizona Sen. John McCain made the Palin-Reagan comparison during a CNN interview.
I think that anybody who has the visibility that Sarah has is obviously going to have some divisiveness, McCain said. I remember that a guy named Ronald Reagan used to be viewed by some as divisive.
In a November interview with Special Reports Bret Baier, Palin expressed uncertainty that she could be compared to Reagan.
Well, Reagan was criticized for being an ideologue, for being too superficial, too idealistic, too optimistic and a bit too independent. I see, perhaps, a comparison in maybe some of our record, but nobody can be compared to Ronald Reagan, Palin said.

AND, that’s why she’s a constant target of the left, the media and the ‘too comfortable’ GOP Washington establishment!!!
For those of us who remember the 1970’s, her experience is so closely mirroring that of Reagan it invokes a sense of deja vu.
From the constant media drumbeat of “too right-wing and unelectable” to embarrassment coming from children (remember Reagan’s daughter ripping him in public and Little Red Ronnie in his tights for the Joffrey Ballet?)
Yep....and don’t forget that many Republicans in polls preferred Gerald Ford to face Jimmy Carter in 1980! Again!
They didn’t want anything to do with Reagan—Nice conservative guy but he can’t win *sigh*
I would have thought by now DeMint and Palin would have had a phone conversation.
If gas is around 4 bucks and unemployment 9-10% by 2012, it’s gonna be anybody but Obama, no matter how many jokes they make about the GOP candidate. And if the GOP messes this up, they deserve to lose. And if they lose, this country is lost.
Yes I do remember that growing up in Minnesota folks saying Reagan is unelectable. I in fact never met anyone that would admit they voted for him. He was unelectable in Minnesota but came very close to beating Mondale who was our favorite son at the time. I really think Sarah could do well but am ambivalent as to whether she should make the effort. She could be quite valuable campaigning for others this time around.

I think you have just about pegged.

She sure has. The rest of the GOP cnadidates for 2012 would fit in a thimble compared to Palin.
I wish DeMint could replace McConnell, who is a loser. We need a fighter in the Senate—there are big fights ahead.
And Mitch “Lame Duck” McConnell is not up to it.
The turnover in the 2010 elections would not have happened without Sarah Palin and her energizing the Tea Party and the GOP base.
In case the RNC hasn’t got the message, WE ARE SICK OF RINO’s!
Wow,I guess even Demint doesn’t. Agree with you opinions that he was more influential than Sarah in the last election.
Now that has got to hurt!
LOL.... Nice spanking.
Note to Jim DeMint:
There are millions of Republican voters who will NOT vote for Romney under any circumstances...
Find another candidate to support. PLEASE!!
Pissant is greatly saddened.........
The Country Club wing of the party turned against Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan, too.
DeMint is prone, just like 99.8% of all politicians, to say stupid stuff now and again.
If he runs, he will likely be my top choice. He, like all the others, has made some idiotic endorsements. But policy-wise, no one mentioned to date matches his conservatism.
