I heard Savage talking one time about how there are 10 million more men in China — and he was theorizing how they could be used in war. Scary.

Which is silly, as China has been rapidly reducing its total troop strength for years, now; they're trying to become a smaller, better equipped, and better trained force. Hordes of cannon fodder are useless for any wars they might fight.

Actually a serious social problem in China are thousands of out-of-work officers and soldiers from the cutbacks.

If I were a bigwig in the PRC’s central military commission, I’d rather have all those men work in factories or as auxiliaries rather than send them to the front.

Not very effectively in my opinion. They would be a problem if we tried to invade but nearly impossible for them to try to transport if the Chinese had any plan on invading America.

Demographics is not my speciality, but I think I saw that the big bump in male population in China occurred some time ago. We might worry a bit more if China had an overabundance of men age 18-24, but I don't think that's the case. I think China has an overabundance of men in their 30's. That would appear to be somewhat less threatening.

Of course, if I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will come by and correct me.

Yup, their one-child policy has resulted in a significant imbalance in the population.

Makes me wonder what will happen when an aggressive, patriarchal culture will do with all of the millions of extra men. I'd not want to be Russia, or any of China's neighbors.

I believe he might have meant that there are 10 Million more in the PLA (Army) OLONE than we have in our Army?

A war that would extend beyond the sea with China would be like nothing this country has ever faced.

We could win, but not without using Nuclear weapons.

The determination on the use of these weapons, comes directly from the political will of the leadership in the White House.

So when the Presidents snotty kids run around PUBLICLY wearing NO NUC’s t-shirts other countries get a pretty solid idea about how that decision will come out.

The Chinese do now have some advanced weapons, but its their Communist ideology that I fear most. This will ruthlessly drive them to remain constantly aggressive with no remorse for the killing that they do all in the name of their Communist beliefs.

So win or lose this war with Taiwan that will force more confrontations that must be to be dealt with over and over against more and more advanced weaponry.

As time goes on and those weapons become even more advanced the prospects of facing an ever growing military capability would be very dismal.

IMO if any war really did take place we would have to cripple their economy and their military - SEVERELY, while fighting to maintain the Carrier battle group in the fight. This would be a way to diminish the rising military capability AND, maybe more importantly, the economic engine they are using to pay for these advanced weapons. Consider going on the offense a big investment in the future.

It might, but most likely will not, also get the attention of these little dictators in Beijing to think about changing their ideology a bit.
