Speculative fun from the Boston Phoenix. All along I’ve been assuming that Iowa would be the de facto social con primary (or rather, caucus) and New Hampshire the de facto centrist primary, with the winners to meet down the road in South Carolina, Nevada, and Florida. But what if New Hampshire’s now a lot redder than we think? What if the Iowa winner rolls into Concord a week or two later with tea partiers ready to rock and blows the centrist frontrunner out of the water? That would all but decide the nomination; it’s hard to imagine any candidate winning the big two early and then fumbling on the way to the end zone.
Is this where Mitt says goodbye?
New Hampshire has just gone through one of the most remarkable political upheavals of its history, completely reshaping the landscape there.
The result, according to political observers in the state, is a power vacuum in the state’s Republican circles, right on the eve of the presidential nomination battle. Or, from the perspective of a Republican presidential wannabe, a slew of total unknowns whose opinion could make or break you…
New Hampshire Tea Partiers, in the afterglow of their 2010 success, are already looking for a conservative, populist candidate, says Andrew Hemingway, chair of the Republican Liberty Caucus, which endorsed more than 100 of the new Republican House members. “There’s already been a shift in attention toward the presidential contest” among those activists, Hemingway says.
The state’s establishment Republicans, on the other hand, will be looking for a more mainstream, electable candidate — one they hope will benefit from the large number of independents expected to vote in the Republican primary, with Obama’s re-nomination a foregone conclusion…..

Remember, some of the New Hampshire transplants came from Mitts train wreck called MA. It had the worst economy of all states during the boom while he was in charge. Zero growth. I have a feeling those people might have something to say on his leadership.
In the commentary below this article a poster referred to the possibility of marginalizing the Left into college towns. I wonder if this is truely possible in NH, and if so how effective would it be? It would be nice to give the GOP a statewide edge for the next 10 years. Also, I wonder if straight ticket voting will be allowed once again? In any event, lets hope that the folks in Concord do their best to defund the Left in this state.
If the Mitt won’t fit, don’t vote for it!

Mitt is a New Hampshire home state boy. Unless of course you’re talking Massachusetts, his home home. Except, Michigan, his real home state, much like his spiritual home of Utah which is in his thoughts and prayers everyday he wakes up in California.
Mitt Romney. Every position, everywhere, at all times. He is who you want him to be, no matter who you are, or where you are. No one does flex better.

That fight is going on all over the country and the RINOs are going to lose. Drive them all out of the GOP and let them join the motley crew over at “No Labels” - if they still exist.

NH is not that Conservative in fact,as a life long resident here, it is RINO central. Fiscallly conservative, maybe, Morally conservative, NO way. Work and money are worshipped here, not Jesus! The NH GOP is just as complicate in creating the very large deficent we now enjoy in NH. The House and Senate track record since 1998 prove it. NH GOP is RINO infested, think Sununu and Juan McPain types of Republicans....
The NH GOP game is to attack the TEA party and make sure the FIRST in the Nation status is used against Palin so she has the FIRST in the Nation failure to deal with early on. The NH GOP machine hates the TEA party. Palin will not do well in NH because she is a Christian.
