Signs of doubt about Palin, from the right

The Wall Street Journal editorial page has taken Sarah Palin to task for her overreaction to Michelle Obama’s campaign against childhood obesity. This is not only notable by itself, but it has sparked similar criticism from other conservative sources. It’s interesting that she’s drawing this kind of fire from my fellow righties.

Palin, the Journal writes, sees a big government plot in Mrs. Obama’s campaign. On her reality show, she served her family “smores,” saying, “This is in honor of Michelle Obama, who said the other day we should not have dessert.”

The Journal editorial drew echoes from a couple of the writers over at Commentary magazine’s blog, Contentions, including former Bush staffer Peter Wehner, who pointed out that Palin’s hip-shooting reaction could undermine the case for smaller government.

Wehner: “Mocking the First Lady and portraying her anti-obesity campaign as several steps on the Road to Serfdom is exactly the type of thing that will turn the public against the legitimate efforts by conservatives to rein in the reach and scope of government. Ms. Palin might consider this before she takes yet another unfair shot at Mrs. Obama.”

A few days earlier, there was a shot from another writer at Contentions, Jonathan Tobin, who noted her gratingly defensive response to columnist Charles Krauthammer’s remark that her reality show appearances are unpresidential. Palin’s reaction: “Oooh. Sorry that I’m not so hoity-toity.”

In Palin’s defense, Michelle Obama has gone much farther than merely urging parents to provide healthy food for their kids, as when she blurted out, “We can’t just leave it up to the parents.” This isn’t mentioned in The Journal editorial. Still, the point of the piece was valid: Palin overreacted, and in the process raised even more doubts among those (such as myself) who don’t believe she’s electable.

"The Wall Street Journal editorial page has taken Sarah Palin"

The "Editorial Page" of this fishwrapper, like others, is merely another attack on the most-feared Conservative to challenge the Progressive Agenda.

We have those right here on FR who want Establishment candidates, conservatives with zero name-recognition, etc., as they are simply jealous of the popularity of a Conservative WOMAN.

She wasn’t giving away anything. She was proposing protecting our right to offshore.

No I believe that parents that look to govt for stopping obesity are the problem. Sarah made an offhand comment nothing more. It wasn’t as if she got bogged down in it though people like you and some of the so called “intellectuals” seem to care very much about such a “dumb program”. Sarah didn’t make a big deal about it and what she said was mild compared to some of the things Michelle’s dumb program claims to do. I think it is time to stop indulging liberals because when we do we allow people to remain accustomed to accepting stupidity at face value.

If you are fat it’s McDonald’s fault, if you shoot someone it’s the gun’s fault, if you are poor its the oil company’s fault. It is frankly refreshing that we have a candidate that isn’t afraid to speak the truth as she sees it in small things as well as large.

You may not like Palin but obsessing over her every comment seems to betray something mentally unbalanced. I like Palin because she is the most straight forward real conservative candidate. She isn’t perfect but what she has is the spirit of the American Dream in her heart. She isn’t ashamed of her conservatism, she isn’t ashamed of her independent hard working upbringing, she isn’t ashamed of God or guns or the little people who support her. The only reason Sarah is hated is because she is the antithesis of the mythology of our modern world where being weak, a victim, a defenseless whimp is a badge of honor when it should be a mark of shame.

I don't know anything about the author's political leanings but I would have to guess that he voted for Obama.

It's the Kansas City Star. One of the most leftist rags in America. Sure, he voted for Big Ears. BTW a good synopsis.

Compare the reaction to the media to Michelle's childhood obesity program (and Sarah's criticism) and the media's criticism of Nancy Reagan's “Just say no” campaign.

Just remember in the federal school lunch program French fries are defined as a vegetable. Who do you want to decide what your kids eat?

The MSM laying the groundwork for who THEY will choose to be the GOP candidate as they did in the 2008 election.

It could also be the GOP (elite and RINOS) laying the groundwork for choosing the "next in line" candidate as they did when they chose Bob Dole, then Juan McPain.

Let's face it, the GOP (like the RATs) does not learn lessons easily. Training a cat would be easier.

The Wall Street Journal editorial page has taken Sarah Palin to task for her overreaction to Michelle Obama’s campaign against childhood obesity.

One would have to first agree that it was an overreaction before going any further down the yellow brick road this author paves with lies...

“Simple simple question....

Look at Sarah Palin....

Look at Michelle Obama ....

Beween the two who the hell! obvious knows more about being fit and healthy?

I have never seen Michelle Obama on the cover of “Runners World” in tight spandex...(and never want too) “

For that matter, can you name even one member of the entire family that is fat?

Palin’s hold on the primary is driving them insane. I have money waiting for Sarah if she runs in the primary. If she is not the candidate, I will sit the election out, or vote Democrat. Bob Dole will not get my vote or financial support.

This seems to me to be a misstep. Taking on Michelle was a rotten idea.

Michelle is an irrelevant idiot to all but the useful idiot cult of personality leftists. Obesity is no more Michelle's cause than Obama is a Christian.

Michelle is a useful idiot -Palin simply brings attention to the flawed ideology and potential damage one high placed useful idiot promotes...

We’ll have a barbecue at the WH in the summer of 2013 for Trig’s birthday - I’ll bring the marshmallows and name each one after a RINO and celebrate the reign of missy - the eating czar - is over.

GO SARAH!

If you think that’s what the LOST is, then by all means, vote for the equally ignorant candidate.

Well you know the left isn’t nearly concerned about drug use. If anything being addicted to something makes you a better citizen.

Either way I’ve never seen kids get fat off of school lunch programs. Most calories are consumed outside of the school lunch room. I’ll decide what my children eat. I noticed my son was getting a bit pudgy so I started ordering for him and stopped buying regular soda. Plus he goes to martial arts frequently. It solved the problem before it started.

I tell my children no. I don’t let my 10 year old son eat adult meals just because he desires to. My nephew sadly doesn’t have the guidance in his life and though he is the same age and height as my son he weighs so much his legs have bowed and he waddles like a penguin. Parenting not govt is the solution.

Well, I think I qualify as “on the right” and I’m still behind her.

About the only way I could give up on her is if she turned out to be a female impersonator.

Sarahs keeping them all guessing...and I hope to see her do so for some time yet...she’s got them on the run and that’s a good thing. Let them say as they will...it won’t change how she goes about conducting her own agenda.
