The Wall Street Journal editorial page has taken Sarah Palin to task for her overreaction to Michelle Obamas campaign against childhood obesity. This is not only notable by itself, but it has sparked similar criticism from other conservative sources. Its interesting that shes drawing this kind of fire from my fellow righties.
Palin, the Journal writes, sees a big government plot in Mrs. Obamas campaign. On her reality show, she served her family smores, saying, This is in honor of Michelle Obama, who said the other day we should not have dessert.
The Journal editorial drew echoes from a couple of the writers over at Commentary magazines blog, Contentions, including former Bush staffer Peter Wehner, who pointed out that Palins hip-shooting reaction could undermine the case for smaller government.
Wehner: Mocking the First Lady and portraying her anti-obesity campaign as several steps on the Road to Serfdom is exactly the type of thing that will turn the public against the legitimate efforts by conservatives to rein in the reach and scope of government. Ms. Palin might consider this before she takes yet another unfair shot at Mrs. Obama.
A few days earlier, there was a shot from another writer at Contentions, Jonathan Tobin, who noted her gratingly defensive response to columnist Charles Krauthammers remark that her reality show appearances are unpresidential. Palins reaction: Oooh. Sorry that Im not so hoity-toity.
In Palins defense, Michelle Obama has gone much farther than merely urging parents to provide healthy food for their kids, as when she blurted out, We cant just leave it up to the parents. This isnt mentioned in The Journal editorial. Still, the point of the piece was valid: Palin overreacted, and in the process raised even more doubts among those (such as myself) who dont believe shes electable.

I personally will never vote for a Mitt Romney or Thune or whichever establishment acceptable candidate is pushed our way. I'd rather have Obama than to resign myself to a return to political tapioca Republicanism.
Wait a minute! Most of those listed in the article as putting down Sarah are “Bushies” or known RINO’s!
blah blah blah to all this silly criticism of Palin. Best I can tell, the woman still has never done anything wrong or taken a position that merits such attacks.
The criticism of Michelle for saying decisions cannot be left up to parents, is merited. Further, I heard Palin make a little joke about Michelle on the tv show. Big deal.
More Palin Fear from the entrenched elites in the Commie QueerMedia and the moderate Democrats, known by those not paying attention, as the Republican Party.
It’s really ramping up. I want Sarah to run very badly. They are really underestimating the money she will have.
Its time to work hard towards a strict constitutional government or allow the left goal of a One World Government to take over. We can not accept any middle of the road RINOs. Its either turn this country back or come Lord Jesus.
Let’s see: Real woman vs wookie fat ass; woman proud of country vs prick who hates America; hot body vs. boob-belt!!! I believe we have a WINNER!
Usual suspects PING!
Attacks from where?
Please leave the propaganda for other sites...
Blah..... they fear her.
That’s for the author of the article.
They know she will be something they can’t control and that is why they attack her so vitriolically and over such stupid things. So we are all supposed to be reasonable now and go along with Michelle Obama’s stupid anti-Obesity program? I’m getting sick and tired of the idiocy especially from those who claim to be on the “right” when they are no such thing.
They are power hungry and they want to return to Tapioca Republicanism and usher in the death of the Tea Party. Tea Parties and conservatives need to get together early.
Signs of doubt about Palin, from the pseudo-right.
There, fixed it.
Exactly. Thanks.
Just a thought from under my tin foil hat:
If Palin wins the presidency, the left launches another civil war. The RINOs will play the role of the Copperheads. The battlegrounds will be the cities, with the Americans occupying most of the territory of the country, but the left imprisoning much of the population. China and Russia will play the roles of Great Britain and France. Expect mass killings of civilians by the left in San Fransisco and Manhattan. The battle of Gettyburg will occur as the left tries to connect its territories in Chicago and the Northeast, but committed Americans in Indiana and southern Ohio stop them in Sandusky. And Palin’s side will win.
Hey, it’s not most awful plot I’ve come across for a bad alternate history. LOL
You're treading in dangerous waters, noobie...
