The Wall Street Journal editorial page has taken Sarah Palin to task for her overreaction to Michelle Obamas campaign against childhood obesity. This is not only notable by itself, but it has sparked similar criticism from other conservative sources. Its interesting that shes drawing this kind of fire from my fellow righties.
Palin, the Journal writes, sees a big government plot in Mrs. Obamas campaign. On her reality show, she served her family smores, saying, This is in honor of Michelle Obama, who said the other day we should not have dessert.
The Journal editorial drew echoes from a couple of the writers over at Commentary magazines blog, Contentions, including former Bush staffer Peter Wehner, who pointed out that Palins hip-shooting reaction could undermine the case for smaller government.
Wehner: Mocking the First Lady and portraying her anti-obesity campaign as several steps on the Road to Serfdom is exactly the type of thing that will turn the public against the legitimate efforts by conservatives to rein in the reach and scope of government. Ms. Palin might consider this before she takes yet another unfair shot at Mrs. Obama.
A few days earlier, there was a shot from another writer at Contentions, Jonathan Tobin, who noted her gratingly defensive response to columnist Charles Krauthammers remark that her reality show appearances are unpresidential. Palins reaction: Oooh. Sorry that Im not so hoity-toity.
In Palins defense, Michelle Obama has gone much farther than merely urging parents to provide healthy food for their kids, as when she blurted out, We cant just leave it up to the parents. This isnt mentioned in The Journal editorial. Still, the point of the piece was valid: Palin overreacted, and in the process raised even more doubts among those (such as myself) who dont believe shes electable.

Wow, sounds like you share Michelle’s stance that parents don’t have the brains to handle this one.
First Lady’s always have some sort of program, usually dumb, and it is best to ignore it and go after what matters.
To think she will get ANY sort of traction from this is frankly, dumb.
Damn, conversationus interruptus. What did they reply?
That’s what gets me. I don’t even object that some less than pure conservatives are employed what I object to is that they are held up as examples of the every day Republican which they are not. If you poll issues 70% of Republicans are both fiscally and socially conservative. Over 40% of the electorate self identify as conservative. What gets me though is how many “conservatives” are so disengaged that they can be fooled so easily. If Huckabee doesn’t run and gets behind Sarah every other candidate would be trounced. The only way Romney wins the primary is if conservatives split the vote.
That being said, who would you support, and why do you wish to see Palin do poorly?
The RINO elite are becoming frantic.
Palin’s hold on the primary is driving them insane.
What a load of BS!! This is the latest liberal meme—OMG, PALIN IS ATTACKING MICHELLE OBAMA!!! Puleeze.
::rolles eyeballs::
It was a snarky, aside, comment to her kids while she was making s’mores about the FLOTUS and big gubmint’s attempt to ‘be the village’ that takes over the raising of our children and putting the kibosh on desserts—and yet, how come every single time we see her husband out and about, he’s got his big mouth full of JUNK FOOD?!?! People in glass houses, yada yada yada...
God bless Sarah Palin for being the voice of We The People. I pray for God to bless this country with her at the helm come January 2013!!
Please elaborate
Don't forget the vilifying by the LSM & the # of registered Rats. I don't see how she or anyone could win under those conditions. Many may say that this nation is center-right but my demographics says not any more & you can believe the commies will get all of theirs out to vote, plus fraud.
How can a person dislike Obama and yet have high praise for the wife that shares the same values.
I dislike the Obama`s for their support/celebration of infanticide for instance. So these polls that show her with high favorabilities?? Certainly like minded dems should feel good about her, but something is wrong with polls that show her with admirers from the right, atleast from my right.
I have no admiration for her whatsoever. I think people are lying to pollsters, or the pollsters are just making it all up like I have always said.
And having said all that, I would weep for joy if all of the Obama`s asked Jesus into their lives!!!!!
>> “Has something happened to conservatives or are we really ready to head down the path of parroting the left and every hair brained bs stupid idea they have because of good intentions?” <<
.
Its not conservatives, its RINOs, and they are very much in union with the left in the march for control of people’s lives.
.
You would have to enlighten me on that one. I havent heard any such thing to date.
No kidding! I don’t remember the lefties and the RINOs coming to Sarah’s defense when HolyO said he’d never heard of her and couldn’t take someone from “Wasilly” seriously—or when he disgustingly said “You can put lipstick on a pig but it’s still a pig”!!
>:-(
Now MO is the poor innocent victim of mean ol’ Sarah’s sarcastic wit?? BOO FRICKIN’ HOO.
So what is wrong with Thune?
they need to try and control the message to keep any new influence out
I’m not overly impressed by any of the contenders and would consider a new face. I’m waiting for any of them to demonstrate how they can beat Obama. I want to see who can appeal to the “swing voters” we need to win. Bottom line is, I want to see Obama defeated.
When I hear things like this I realize I made the correct decision not to renew my subscription to the WSJ and go with Investor’s Business Daily.
I’ve been with IBD a long time and not only are their editorials fair and pro-American (i.e., conservative), but you’ll make more money with them as well.
With all the things going on, foreign and domestic, the Wall Street Journal has time for this? They should be ashamed of themselves.
I dislike Michelle Obama as well.
