My last dog Kelsey was such a great dog I still haven’t been able to bring myself to get another. She was a pound dog, 1/2 Doberman and 1/2 Rottweiler. Great, loyal dog and great with the kids. My kids and the neighbor kids would climb all over her and she loved it. Was also a great guard dog without having to do anything, she just had that look. She went everywhere with me and died by my side. I still choke up thinking of her.

Sorry to hear it, Jake.

He was a fortunate little fellow, with the loving home you provided.

There are no words that can fill the emptiness we feel with the loss of a precious companion pet. Their unconditional love and devotion are missed as much as their unique personality. But we can replace the grief with joyful anticipation and hope, knowing that it is within our loving Gods power to see to it that cold noses will be waiting for us at the Pearly Gates.

God Bless You.

It is interesting, the attachments we form with animals (and vice-versa). Unlike with humans where we at least try to communicate our feelings, we rely on the unspoken clues - the wags of a tail, the gentle headbutt, the telltale signs that our affection is reciprocated.

My daughter had a kitty cat. Notorious mainly for their independence, her kitty was the affectionate sort - with her at any rate. They got along famously and were very close. They played like most friends do, but what startled me was the protective and concerned stance the kitty would take when my daughter was blue. I had never seen that in a cat before.

I inherited the kitty when my daughter died and, although I did my best to show her the same kind of attention and affection, she just never responded the same way with me.

Earlier this year she took ill and I took her to the vet. She had something called FIP. I spent a ton of money trying to overcome it but she continued to languish. I finally had to put her down. I can’t help but think she died of a broken heart.

She was a good friend and companion to my daughter and I am grateful for the love that they shared. Likewise, it sounds like you spent a lot of time together with Buddy and you can look back fondly on the time you spent together.

I wish you my best.

All dogs go to heaven. If Jesus knows your name, you will see them both there.

Oh how I hope this is true. Yesterday I had to put down my beloved 15 year old standard poodle, Jazz. She had nasal cancer that had come back after treatment last year. It was getting worse fast. She had a good day and then I did the hardest thing I ever have done. It's hell. I can only pray I will see her again. She was my other half.

You own a dog - you just feed a cat.

Hate to hear about that earlier in the year we had to put down my 16 year old Beagle-mutt, she was my best friend, and I miss her.

I am SO sorry to hear this. My condolences jakerobins. I never had a dog until I met my wife and we purchased a pug. This little black girl made herself my wife's best friend, and I was (and am still) amazed at the connection they have.

Over the next few years we added 2 more pugs, one of which decided that she would claim me as her person. That little pug began to follow me everywhere, and is at my side whenever we are in the same room together. Her name is Sarah, and she has totally melted my heart. I never thought that I would have an attachment to a dog like I have with her, especially a little dog. She is a true friend.

As you grieve remember all of the good times you had with your little friend and hopefully that will ease the pain. Losing a pet is certianly the downside of having one, but no way it erases all of the joy they give. .

Prayers up for you my FRiend, take care.

Its totally sad to lose our best friend and companion, namely our dog. They love us no matter what, come to us for reassurance and snacks, they know when we are sad and they will reassure us that we are still loved...I dont know who anyone can live without a dog in their life...when they die of natural causes or we have to put them down, it is truly a sad day or many days for us....bless you and know you were unconditionally loved...

Very sorry for you jakerobins. Very hard at any time of the year, but especially so at Christmas. If you feel up to it, post a pic of him.

I might be speaking for many of us here; we’d like to see pics of little “Buddy” and “Jazz” if you can post them. Let’s celebrate these two special little spirits this day after Christmas.

Today, I will give extra special attention to my own small friends and have some shared prayers for the spirits of Buddy and Jazz here in Colorado.
