We-meaning many so-called conservatives-have tried making nice with the enemy and where has that gotten us? Why kiss their ass on this most important of subjects, national defense?

Personally, it's a done deal for at least two years. One can only hope the "mushy middle" also sees it for what it is and elects a GOP president and turns over both houses of Congress to the GOP in 2012.
Aside from that, I don't see that there's a whole lot that can be done for the time being. I don't like it any more than any of the posters here, but as a former service member, I know I served with gays/lesbians. I'm not that naive. I'm also not naive enough to think that the service chiefs aren't going to salute, say, "Yes, sir," and pass the orders down.
Yes, readiness and retention will suffer. So my making those observations is flame-worthy from a bunch of hateful people who likely never served in a line unit? I never said I was in support of gays in the military, but whether we like it or not, the military IS a microcosm of society with a few filters applied.
Frankly, I'm more annoyed by the 100 percenters in this thread than anything else.
