The Senate has just voted to end debate on a bill that would lift the ban on gays serving openly in the military, essentially clearing the measure for passage and signature by the president.
Lawmakers voted 63 to 33 to end debate on the current policy, put in place by former president Bill Clinton, informally known as "don't ask don't tell."
The Senate could vote on final passage of the measure as early as today but it will most likely happen on Sunday or Monday.
"We are on the verge of ending 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' for good," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said after the vote "This is one of those moments in our history when we stepped up and squared our policies with the values this nation was founded upon."

Hi Jim,
Quick Question, off topic? If I send you a book at the FR address at the bottom of the page, will you get it?
Thank you.
>>so I think any harassment charges could be handled in that way (if a gay soldier propositions a straight soldier).
Do you really believe that a straight soldier will be given a fair hearing if he tries to file a harrassment complaint against a gay soldier? He will probably be accused of homophobia for complaining and the harrassment charge will go against him for “attacking” the homo.
Keep up the good fight man!
Yup. Thanks
It's all going to be crazy.
It's all going to be crazy.
And completely out of line!
I think my wife might disagree with him on that one :)
I believe you're probably right:)
However, I thank you and manc for the support.
Anytime:)
I suspect if he needs to talk about it, he'll let you know. He has much to proud of; a lengthy service in the greatest military the world has ever known, not to mention, a fine son. Will you do me a favor? Shake your father's hand and tell him there is a family in Arkansas that thanks him for his service.
I share the sentiments expressed in the rest of your post. Not a pleasant picture to contemplate.
From our house to yours, Merry Christmas!

I couldn't agree more. What's sad is this is exactly what they want. This how they will weaken our military. Enlistment will drop dramatically.
Can you imagine hearing one of them saying "You're welcome" to you?
It means having their domestic Partners participate inmilitary social functions as equals.
It means a new industry opening up for Lawyers.
Any internal disruption increases risk in a military operation. Increasing risk is intolerable. What the left wants to do is politicize the military the way they have education because it is a big government program ripe for political correctness. The military will get the same polarity that exists in political realms. It purely enables them to introduce their sacred elements such as handgun laws(can you say Ft. Hood?) and twisted forms of redistribution. Redistribution is of course the ultimate goal in everything the left does. New forms of socialism is what they are accomplishing with their armies of lawyers and regulations.
If you don't believe this just take a look at the "Social Justice" initiatives in churches. They are coming after all the major denominations. It is another front in the war they have been gaining ground in for 50 years. They demand things in the name of religion. Choices come under their influence.
The key difference here is that there will be more unnecessary deaths and a less effective military which threatens not just assets but basic survival. This is what the left wants anyway. A safer world for tyrants, dictators and other caring bureaucrats trying to control and take from others.
The US Military saved the world a few times already. It wasn't easy and NOTHING should be done to limit effectiveness of those that protect from totalitarians.
“That situation is being remedied in a very upfront and direct way (at the “enlistment” level).
“Although I tend to be pessimistic, I can only see the military trending more and more leftist/PC over time.”
I have admired the way the church has been working on this problem. Quietly and efficiently. But they are a private organization that has some grounding in scripture. It will be much harder for the military to repair the damage once the fabulous camel has it’s nose under the side of the tent.
And, on the occasion that I DID break them... my parents didn't kick me out of the house and change the locks.
I don't know, if you broke the rule and were not punished that sounds inconsistent to me. Also, my example was not a child living at home, but an adult still with their parents.
But then... my parents loved me. Even when I sometimes disagreed with them.
I hope so. But then...maybe you didn't push too hard. The attempt to justify normalizing gay lifestyle is pushing too hard here.
I wouldn't worry too much though, reasonable people understand reason.
Too often, IMO, on this site... reasonable people don't get a CHANCE to understand reason. They get BOOTED before they get a chance.
That was my point.
The reasonable ones I meant was the owner. I have been threated along with many others many times by posters who imagine things and ask for our zot, as you can see it hasn't happened.
Where am I supposed to see it?
Who gets booted for agreeing with the site policies?? No one that I can see. Jim is tolerant of the discussions, just not of those who justify and agree with special treatment for gay people or those who agree that being gay is to be celebrated.
WRONG. Now the perverts are taking over our military! If a military man now says anything that can even be interpreted as not being for the pervert agenda, his military career may be over! If he even mentions that he disagrees with the lifestyle, his military career may be over in this new hyper PC culture. RINOs are just as culpable as Dems.
