No doubt the Obama loving media will treat 8.4% unemployment under Obama as a VICTORY, but the BIG drop came when people LEFT THE WORK FORCE...not because they necessarily GOT JOBS. Look from July 2010 to August 2010...thousands in Columbus left the civilian work force.
My suggestion: wherever Obama goes, we find on bls.gov the employment stats for the area. His propaganda ought not trump THE TRUTH that his administration is killing jobs and prosperity.
Where does Obama go today? D.C. only? Well, that area probably has seen an INCREASE in employment...government.
The Democrats’ explanation will be that even had Bush or McCain been in office, the unemployment would be same in 2008 and upwards. After all, the financial crisis that caused the meltdown in the economy started under Bush... Obama just inherited it.
I’ve heard their explanation too many times.
So when Bush took over unemployment was at 3.4%. When he left office it was 7.3%. It is now 8.4% and down from earlier highs. The steep rise you note appeared to begin in Oct-07 during the Bush administration. Not sure your stats make the strongest argument against Obama as opposed to Bush.
ohio voted for obama
and unemployment went up!
so-o-o-o sorry!
Don’t you know that it’ll take the messiah at least 8 years to correct Bush’s mistakes. (sarc)
A President's impact extends beyond the date he leaves office, or to put it another way; The incoming President's changes in policies have little impact for some period of time (usually 6 to 12 months).
“So when Bush took over unemployment was at 3.4%. When he left office it was 7.3%. It is now 8.4% and down from earlier highs. The steep rise you note appeared to begin in Oct-07 during the Bush administration. Not sure your stats make the strongest argument against Obama as opposed to Bush.”
It doesn’t. That is the wrong argument. The correct one is look at who ran the House and Senate. Dems took over both in 2006. Policy takes a while — here almost two years — to effect the economy. That’s what happened: The donks and their corruption when they took over Congress killed the economy. Obama just made it worse...
Look Nation Wide this is even more disturbing...
It is surprising that over the past several years very little has been said in the popular media about the fact that America is slowly (but surely) transforming from a full-time to part-time employed society. And while much has been said about the temporary and now past impact of census hiring, and government jobs on the workforce, there are still few mentions in mainstream media that since the depression started in December 2007, America has lost 10.5 million full time jobs, offset by a 2.8 million increase in part time jobs.
Ohio Ping
I live in Columbus. It's far worse than those stats imply. Also, for those who aren't aware, Columbus is the "healthiest" area of the state as far as the economy goes. There are dozens of counties in Ohio with real jobless rates of at least 20%.
So, as a true Ohioan, you can testify that things have gotten WORSE under Obama?
Much worse under Obama.
