Reagan birth centennial stamp debuts
The Washington Times ^ | December 13, 2010 | Mark A. Kellner

Posted on 12/13/2010 12:06:08 PM PST by jazusamo

If it was "morning in America" for President Ronald Reagan, a new commemorative postage stamp due in February to mark "the Gipper's" birth centennial will forever view the sunrise.

The new commemorative stamp, whose design was unveiled Monday at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif., always will be valid for a 1-ounce first-class letter, the U.S. Postal Service confirmed. It officially will be released at the library on Feb. 10, 2011, four days after the 100th anniversary of Reagan's birth.

Texas artist Bart Forbes did the portrait, based on a 1985 photograph of Reagan taken at Rancho del Cielo, near Santa Barbara, Calif.

The design was published first in Linn's Stamp News, a hobbyist publication. Earlier this year, Linn's broke the news that a Reagan Centennial postage stamp would be released.

Although the preliminary design shows a 44-cent value, the postal agency recently announced that all commemorative, or special, issues will be inscribed with "Forever," instead of a face value, meaning they would sell for the then-current first-class rate but would remain valid for first-class mail even when rates increase.

A USPS spokesman who asked not to be identified by name said a revised version showing the "Forever" inscription will be released Dec. 28.

On a good day, I look like a gray poodle.

Bill asked me this morning if I was going to Walmart, because he wanted “a hair dryer or something.” Oh, really? A hair dryer or a pair of shoes? A hair dryer or a bunch of bananas? Eventually, he decided he wanted a hair dryer.

Young Beau Brummell and his perfect curls ...

No, I haven’t, either. But how good is being clean if you have bedbugs?

Getting clean is much cheaper than getting rid of bedbugs, agreed. But I *have* to be quite presentable and fairly fully-functioning at these meetings; sleeping in the car won't get me there.

Besides, I got some advice years ago: it doesn't look good for the company's image if I go too cheap. I can cut corners, but only where it's not visible. They will pay a LOT for me to stay at fancy hotels, but to be frank once you're in your room none of it matters much and for me the room is where I sleep and maybe unwind a bit; the difference between a high-end hotel and a *clean* Motel 6 is not that much. I've stayed in (German) hotels FAR more spartan than Motel 6 and... they're okay too.

Bedbugs: I've suddenly become a big fan of using those suitcase stands you find in hotel closets, and of making sure that clothing is always kept up & away.

The hotel I booked has no reports filed on it, but I'm being a bit more cautious now.

Much to be said, there is, for staying home. Not that you have that option ...

We’re going on vacation this fall to the same house we rented last year. This is the first time we’ve found a place we wanted to use again.

Please don't be too much down on him; it's time for him to attract a mate and it seems appearance is part of his method. Consider that he might have gone for grunge!

No, I don't. But I make the best of it and interesting things sometimes happen as a result.

"Running two old cars the way we do (12 and 19 years), with seemingly almost 10% downtime for one or the other, I think we need a third car. Unlike when we bought Ealabhan, I'm not really taken by the low-price cars. But one's a pickup (Ford F-150) and I've missed having a pickup ever since we let go of Truck ('74 Datsun) in 2000. I wonder if I could find one with a stickshift?"

I got an extra truck recently. A Ford Ranger.

Don't make the mistake I did. This truck has no storage room at all.

My suggestion, if you go with the F-150, get an extended cab of some sort. You may never have an extra passenger, but room for groceries would be nice.

Plus, if you're going to have a truck, it seems proper to have some tools; jumper cables, scissor jack, pipe for the lug wrench, and so forth.

I also remember seeing an ad for a device; connect an electric motor in place of your bell housing and add a few extra batteries. Presto! Instant hybrid vehicle!

Wow. I miss so much by going to bed so early.

Of course, I feel a little better than I did yesterday, but that ain’t sayin’ much!

I’ll have to wait till next month for the Hair Cut Fairy. Drat.

And today, I will begin to pack up some things. I’ve decided when I box up the books, I’ll just leave them in boxes. It will give the illusion of more room in the “new” place, anyway. I hope.

And yes, I miss my truck. Since it’s been down for the count, I’ve missed three family functions, not to mention lots of local visits.

Good morning. Rained all day, rained all night. I dreamed about building a pond in the back yard.

“It rained all night the day I left,
The weather it was dry.
The sun so hot I froze to death
Suzannah don’t you cry.”

There now. Feel better?

Can you imagine the strength in the paws of that cat? Not to mention the sharpness and hardness of the claws. *sheesh* Talk about tenacity!

Nice tagline!

Rain is letting up. Bill is supposed to be somewhere this morning, but is unable to tell us where it is. Sigh.

If I hadn’t been slowing down to turn into the driveway, I would never have seen the sign on the barricade. It was funny!

I thought he was dead, until I heard a moan from under this pillow! Now he’s in the shower, and I guess he’ll get to use his new hairblower.

Well, at least he’s alive! Some teens need more sleep than others. So I’ve been told. ;o]

Check with your hairdresser friend and see if spikey dos are still in. I’m thinking about getting one...just for the ease of care.

One of the moms in my Girl Scout troop, a sharp lady in her 50s, had spiked hair. We bought some gel she recommended, but Anoreth’s hair simply wouldn’t spike, no matter what - and I was too chicken to try it.

Time to hit the road - take Bill to Whatever, go by the library, Tom and Elen to church, get some white cake frosting, new dog bed ... I think it will be 5 o’clock Somewhere about 1:30 ;-).

Ohyah. I think it’s going to be 5 o’clock somewhere about the same time here. Now, I really MUST get busy sorting and packing.

So far, I’ve cleaned the bathroom and stacked the dishes, and will take the garbage out before I sort the yarn and threads and get them stored. Now I wish I had more room on the patio, as I’m being crowded out, in here.

Later!
