The passions that swirled around Bush v. Gore, the Supreme Court case that ended 10 years ago Sunday, dissipated quickly. And remarkably little damage was done by the institutional collisions that resulted when control of the nation's supreme political office turned on 537 votes out of 5,963,110 cast in Florida.
Many controversies concerned whether particular votes could be said to have been cast properly. Chads are those bits of paper that, when a ballot is properly cast by puncturing spots next to candidates' names, are separated from the ballot. In Florida, there were "dimpled" chads that were merely dented and "hanging" chads not separated from the ballots. Furthermore, there were undervotes (ballots with no vote for president) and overvotes (votes for two presidential candidates) and ill-designed (by a Democrat) butterfly ballots.

The courts which “have nothing to do with it” (FLSC) were allowing the Constitution to be violated. SCOTUS was right to rule as it did.
Not only do we have Republican governors in the battleground states but we have Secretaries of State in those states as well.
The dems can try to steal the election from now till the ned of time......it cannot be done.
And years of ‘selected, not elected.
Damn them for all time.
Me too!!!!
Maybe THAT moment in history was the catalyst beginning of the beginning that the Tea Party subsequently sprang forth from...
that is a classic... and “Get out of Cheney’s house! Get out of Cheney’s house!” hahahaha! love that!
ping...
A decade really does put things in perspective and history now has resulted in Bush being a respected elder statesman who mind’s his own business and Al Gore’s insanity has only intensified. Gore has spent the past decade on a powerpoint tour explaining his apocalyptic theory that the planet would be engulfed in flames by 2011 due to cattle flatulence and the use of cars. Not only has he lost his mind, he’s lost control of his johnson and has capped the decade off by raping hotel personnel. History will record the Clinton/Gore ticket as the first all rapist POTUS/Vice President team. If Al Gore had not been born with a multi-million dollar trust fund he would be a streetcorner crackpot with a cardboard sign scrawled with the words “the end is near!!”
Still to this very day, the unlawfully discarded absentee military ballots have NEVER BEEN INCLUDED IN THE VOTE TOTAL!
Shame on Al Gore!
Shame on the democRATS!
If only the felon vote hadn’t been suppressed ...
Get out of Cheneys house! Get out of Cheneys house!
Oh how I remember THAT! !
I was thrilled 43 was re-elected, thinking that would finally quiet the liberals. Not so.
Here's hoping they issue the same type of decision against the Alaska debacle - unanimous to follow the rules and regs stipulated prior to the vote. (If it gets there!)
I’ve been on FR 10 years, now. And I finally signed up to follow the drama of the election tussle. Thanks, JimThom!
Get out of Cheneys house! Get out of Cheneys house!
Oh how I remember THAT! !
You’ll remember that the NY Slimes couldn’t wait to rush down to FL to count all the ballots to prove that Gore was robbed...except, after they finished counting...SURPRISE...Bush still won.
Hard to believe that mess was ten years ago. In some ways, it seems like 20 years ago, or maybe even another lifetime.
That was the first election I was old enough to vote in, and Clinton’s anti-gun agenda drew me into following politics. I’ll never forget that... I can’t even call it an election night. It was more like an election month. A total emotional roller coaster.
That was one hell of a way to get introduced to the whole electoral process of our country. LOL
ROFL! Has this guy talked to any hard-core liberals lately? They will NEVER forget or forgive the "selection" of GW Bush.
