A Chicago woman is suing McDonald's after she said an employee at a West Side location would not sell her a cheeseburger, then refused to make her a ham, egg and cheese bagel, and finally spit in her face.

Sarah Thienes had pulled up in a taxi at the McDonald's at 23 N. Western Ave. early one morning last December to buy a cheeseburger, according to the lawsuit filed Wednesday in Cook County Circuit Court.

How much does it cost to say “I’ll be with you in a moment?”

There’s a lot wrong with Walmart but our local one has decent help. The only unfriendly, unhelpful ones are the greeters. Stupid custom, they should discontinue it.

" Hi, I'm Van your server. I use to work in the WH.
And if you order a ham, egg and cheese bagel, I'll spit in your face."

Don’t mcdonalds have a duty to provide a safe environment for people they actively invite into their premises?

They choose to pay bottom dollar & get bottom-feeding employees.

Boy are you right! My husband went to Penny’s to pick up a gift and he had all the info and couldn’t find what he was looking for so he asked for someone to help. This woman walked in circles a few times then said nope we don’t have it. He called me and I said it’s there just take a second look because according to their internet site their inventory update says they do have the product. He took a couple more minutes at best and found what he was looking. Now the thing is this happens all the time, why I don’t know. When I worked in retail we had to know our products and inventory but not anymore. But it’s the same way with banks doctors offices anywhere you go because there are some people in this world who think they can just get by when working no matter what kind of job they have to do.

Disgusting hygeine and food handling practices.

The downfall of these fast food places is WHO owns so many of them. Hint: They’re immigrants from a different culture and they don’t use toilette paper.

that really is true but these people who work at these retail stores still need to know how to help people, common decency at best.

You nailed this one precisely. And I’ll bet the company ends up giving her something to shut her up.

“You can have cheap prices or good customer service, but not both. Pick one, and quit complaining about not getting the other.”

At first my kneejerk reaction was to agree with that statement, because, generally, it rings true.

I do have to say though, Home Depot bucks that trend here where I live. The prices are cheaper than a hardware store, and the folks are all over to help you out.

But for the most part, I’d have to agree. I’m not sure if other Home Depots train their employees as well as the one by us, or if its a local manager that gets the credit, or they just got lucky hiring good folks, I couldn’t tell you, but they offer great prices and great service.

I live mainly in a white population area and do not know about that but what cinched it for me was looking beyond the counter people and looking in the food prep area to see who was actually making the food. Greasy hair, tat's, piercing all over their face and generally looking less than savory.

That’s too bad about your experience at WalMart. I go to our local store all the time because it’s close. I’ve never been to a WalMart until I moved here to flyover country.

Whenever I’ve had a question, the clerks are friendly, have walked with me to find the item I was looking for, have looked in the back for items for me, etc. Maybe differences in store management can result in differences in the clerk’s behavior? If the manager doesn’t stress customer service, the clerks don’t feel a need to do it on their own.

Yep. That was the first thing that we learned. Day one, minute one.

Occasionally, I'd get a wierd request from a customer that would stump me ("I see in the flyer that there are Dark Blue, Light Blue, and Medium Blue Widgets, but none in Sky Blue. Can you check in the back?") ... but knowing the stock was what it was all about.

Of course, that was before the internet. I'd think that having instant, lowest-cost competition would cause brick and mortars to step up their game a bit, but maybe not.....

I went through management training for a fast food chain decades ago, and one of the exercises was: what position in the store would you give to each of the seven dwarfs (Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy, and Dopey). Sneezy was always in the back where customers couldn’t see him doing food prep.
